I hate to admit that I found some of Putin’s points persuasive. I’m not conned into thinking Putin is a highly-moral person. But I can see why he would oppose NATO expanding closer to their border.
I don’t know enough as to whether the neo-NAZI claims have any credibility. But I do know that the Bidens were involved in open corruption in the Ukraine. Ukraine and even Russia to some extent must feel pretty powerless against the US, and whenever we have duplicitous politicians exploiting that power for their own corrupt political ambitions, it’s going to have repercussions.
And some of the culture war that we’ve been fighting here has been even worse in other countries, where the American left wants to push its LGBT and pro-abortion agenda on the whole planet. Here we have more power to fight back politically than if you are another country who depends heavily on American help, trade, etc.
After the Bush Jr failure, I’ve grown weary of the neocon warmonger views and have to come to believe we need to quit trying to be the world’s police when it comes to our industrial-military complex. We need to protect ourselves, especially including the foreign invasion that our uniparty politicians have allowed. We need to use trade policies to pressure human rights around the world. But we don’t need to be the world’s police. We’ve got enough problems here at home.
On the other hand, we’ve got to keep an eye out for China and Russia using the pretext of protecting their interests in order to pursue military dominance. We really need Trump’s policy of America first when it comes to bringing back manufacturing and maintaining energy independence. These make for better relationships with our neighbors and trade partners.
We’re no longer the shining city on a hill that Reagan tried to achieve. But it would be a good goal to return to.

The thing is, NATO is a defensive organization. The Soviet Union and now Russia have historically been the aggressors. Western Europe does not have the right to form a defensive alliance just because Russia says so?

As should be. I am willing to bet no Americans have read Putin’s speech. Both sides are to be examined. That said, Both sides are corrupted, there are no good guys in this one. A divine hallmark: Almighty God commonly uses evil to destroy evil. Don’t ever doubt that.
