Merit-based immigration coupled with border enforcement is the ONLY reasonable immigration policy.
How many of who is up for debate, but any semblance of a coherent system would be better than the current chaos preferred by our legislators.
To do “the jobs Americans won’t do”? Do you know who did those jobs when I was a kid? Americans, black and white: stockyards and meatpacking, light industry, etc. The only exception was the mushroom farm in the caves of the bluffs in the American Bottoms. There was a small camp of migrant workers there. Nearly every family in my town was blue-collar. Nobody got rich, and some people had quite modest incomes, but families were supported. I know there have been national and global economic changes since then that are beyond my understanding, but I do understand that this is another example of how we are not better off now.
