Well I suppose the athletes could consider this a character building exercise.
When Canada detained a Huawai exec for the US justice dept. a few years ago China went ballistic and arbitrarily detained a couple of Canadian businessmen who just happened to be in China on drummed up drug charges. Their bad luck but they were in China after all so there is always risk. So these guys who were recently released finally had 2 years or so of character building. Anyone paying attention to this would have been wise to avoid China at all costs.
I’m not sure it’s boiled.

I’m not sure what I would do if I was a parent - let’s face it, my family likely would have made sure I never spent more than a couple of hours at a time around the kid! lol
I note from reading up on kid athletics that it’s getting pretty crazy out there. Other kids - and jealous or perverted adults - persecute those who are good at this or that sport, picking on/brutalizing females especially. And then there are the crazy coaches. You know all about them, likely.
Kids have a lot of energy and sports are good for them in a lot of ways. Some are very talented and it’s a thrill to watch them. But these are Olympic athletes - right? - and they’re getting the “concentration camp” treatment. (Kinda like the good old days: A lot of participants in the ancient Olympics were slaves!)
Some parents or coaches will just keep pushing youths into competition in spite of all the warnings - it’s really all about them. I don’t envy a talented young athlete - or maybe s/he is not that talented but they love to compete! - today, nor do I envy his/her parents.
It sounds as though you had a good result and your days of sitting in the bleachers were rewarded, however! *confetti floats down from the ceiling* Good on ya, Moms!
Aren’t all the athletes fully vaccinated? How can this happen?
Now they check to see what communism really is like. It probably won’t change the way they vote though.
A fact most people won't have any inkling about until they're hanging ten at the ditch while the band plays "Bang, Flop."
I guess it could be worse....
China could be injecting the isolated athletes with Remdisavir and putting them on ventilators, and finally sending them home in body bags.
How does the Olympic committee put up with stuff like this?... I’m still waiting to hear someone charge that the Chinese are weaponizing their testing to take the highest foreign threats out of competition.
I’d like to feel something for the athletes chasing gold at all costs. Really, I would. But I have to trim my nails and do other things.
Exactly how I feel. These athletes who sold out their morals to chase a stupid medal are getting what they deserve. Hope you get locked down. Serves you right for going to china, the country that hoisted COVID on the world and has slaves currently serving their cause.
With any luck this will be the last Olympics in history
I guess China paid off the IOC like they do everybody else, and we know from past history that the IOC is corrupt and bribe-taking.
