Yes, this is France’s problem. This was part of French West Africa, and they have been active in the recent past with the Foreign Legion in this region, don’t know about today.
I was born in Africa as a French citizen and I can’t keep up with all the new names. And it’s not just the old French colonies.
I remember back in the 1970’s, Upper Volta / Burkina Faso was deemed the poorest country in the entire world. That includes Haiti.

There’s a new word: Scientism.
Scientism is a belief system masquerading as actual science. It requires faith, in that evidence itself can be refuted along any arbitrary basis that suits its adherents in the moment.
E.g. “Do you believe in Climate Change, or not?” This is something one who practices scientism might say. Doesn’t matter that the atomic weight of CO2 is 48 and O2 is 32, and that CO2, being heavier than air, cannot possibly be a greenhouse gas.
It has a priesthood, Scientism. The current Pope is Anthony Fauci, but he has many bishops working for him.
