I hope Governor Youngkin has got his shxt together this time !!
My power was just restored here in Southern Maryland about 30 minutes ago. It has been out since Monday morning. I hope that hot water heater heats up quick so I can get a bath before this next storm knocks it out again... sighs... such is life
No. The requirements for it to be classified as a blizzard are this….
https://w1.weather.gov/glossary/index.php?word=blizzard
Blizzard - (abbrev. BLZD)- A blizzard means that the following conditions are expected to prevail for a period of 3 hours or longer:
Sustained wind or frequent gusts to 35 miles an hour or greater; and
Considerable falling and/or blowing snow (i.e., reducing visibility frequently to less than ¼ mile)
Blizzard Warning - Issued for winter storms with sustained or frequent winds of 35 mph or higher with considerable falling and/or blowing snow that frequently reduces visibility to 1/4 of a mile or less. These conditions are expected to prevail for a minimum of 3 hours.
Ground Blizzard Warning - When blizzard conditions are solely caused by blowing and drifting snow.
Meanwhile, bomb cyclone is this….
Bomb - Popular expression of a rapid intensification of a cyclone (low pressure) with surface pressure expected to fall by at least 24 millibars in 24 hour.
It’s not the meteorologists who are creating the hysteria. It’s the media.
If people want to blame someone, at least blame the ones who hype the weather, not merely forecast it.
Rumor has it.
But we have several for different kinds of frozen precipitation as well.
It’s fear porn by the media.
From one meteorologist to another, the two word term “bomb cyclone” conveys paragraphs of information.
Meteorologists care.
Does the storm have a name yet?
You mean like Anderson Poofter kneeling in the flood water>
Yeah, or the one of the reportette in a canoe when two guys go walking past in the background showing it to be .ankle deep water.
The media are liars and frauds.
