Maybe, they’re stocking up? Expecting an embargo from the US?

If it’s not forever, you can just hop in your car and go somewhere. Forever is what precludes the car.

It bought up and horded enough to make up that number together with what it does produce. Does anybody actually listen to the videos? Or is it just read the headline and run.

Well, start believing it.

They could do it by buying up agricultural futures, pyramiding them as the price ticks up on account of their mammoth long positions, and then taking delivery and paying up. They could do it by contracting with individual farmers or individual countries. Nobody gets poor from selling to China. And their orders are much solicited and sought after. Australia sells them 100% of their iron ore, just for starters, plenty of wine, barley and other agriculturals, too. Trump in Phase One of his China deal got them to agree to buy 50 billion in agricultural products. Whether or not the deal went through before Covid hit, the deal was made. Israel has sold them a sh!t-load of dairy products, too.

This year’s harvest, however, went 50% to China.

When the headline is ridiculous, and also fails to match known facts (like my grocery stores are all well stocked) there’s no reason to watch the video. Because the best the video can hope to be is a lesson on critical thinking and not believing scare headlines that are obviously false. If the video isn’t that then it’s LIES, and also not worth watching.

Like manufacturing we got rid of most family farms and ranches

I got a chill up my spine when I read about Bill Gates buying up all kinds of ranch land. Why? Being a pessimist by nature, my first thought was that he was going to end up restricting use of these lands for ranching or farming. I think he is a vegan, so he probably thinks everyone should be a vegan.

“(like my grocery stores are all well stocked)”

Did you go out to eat at a high-end restaurant and not see any crime, too? American retailers would be well stocked, but the prices would also go up, and other, less prosperous countries without grain elevator policies and a prolifically productive heartland would not be so lucky. The pinch would be felt in Africa and Asia, some of the poorer European countries. It’s foolish to present anecdotal evidence as dispositive. Don Lemon might make that mistake.

If somebody is hoarding half the global food supply it wouldn’t just cause inflation. It would crash the market, shelves would be empty globally. Thus the fact that shelves are NOT empty globally tells us the story is a LIE.

You are using “No one can survive the complete end of civilization” as an argument against “people should be prepared for interruption in services or food delivery”.

Are they allowed to say that? I mean, isn’t mentioning China in a negative context racist?

Not in India. As fellow non-whites, they don’t have to worry about racism.

We got rid of many many farms and ranches in the 80s and 90s and became for the first time in US history, net importers of food.

Many farms and ranches are now subdivisions, all the rich soil ether paved over or buried under 10 feet or more of fill and gravel. Real estaters loved this time as did developers ; we can always import more food from China Mexico, Brazil etc was the prevailing sentiment.

Gates angle is likely selling the land to the Chinese, since overseas land is the safest investment a Chinese can make. Land in China was a safe bet, but now, after the Evergrande scandal, its no longer safe - there is no other safe sector left in China.

You underestimate the flexibility of a global market. The global food supply is huge, and a shortage of this sort is not felt as much in the first world, where it’s just part of the inflation we’re all experiencing, as it is in the third. There people are starving, but there are no TV cameras, so the world ignores it.
