“Ethan doesn’t look like either parent. Strange.”

My sister and I each have a child that look nothing like us or their fathers or siblings, but they do look like each other. One day we were going through our paternal grandmother’s things and found a picture of her grandmother and those two cousins were dead ringers for her.

Genetics can play unusual tricks.

I’ve never worked as a case manager with kids-only adults-and being adults with adult personalities dangerous behavior can be spotted unless you are dealing with a total sociopath-then it takes longer-but I am a mom who raised a cub-and I do believe these parents were not only clueless, but downright negligent regarding their kid’s mental state-for one thing, when the school authorities had a meeting with them-that very day-and told them it was best that they take the kid-and his unopened backpack-home, and seek help for him, the parents should have done so-in most states, you can call a mental health/psychiatric clinic or hospital and get an emergency consultation and/or admission for a kid without needing the kid’s permission-if they had done that, it would at least have defused the situation before it became critical in the short term.

It looks as if the school staff saw something going wrong and did as much as they could under the circumstances-the parents-not so much-the mom joking about not getting caught illegally buying ammo instead of calling the kid on it, etc-I think these parents were in denial regarding their son’s mental/emotional issues-no parent wants to have to believe their child is mentally ill or a potential mass murderer, etc-but that kind of denial is a contributing factor to events like this one-it is tragic for everyone...

Only initially.

Some people are really good at pouring on the charm if they want something.

It’s only after you re hooked that their true colors come out.

Which gives the ex more than a bit of credibility.

Sure, she could be bitter and biased.

But then again, she could be telling the truth.

There are a lot of weird things about these two parents that IMO give her more credibility in her assessment of them.

You are right, of course.

I just found it odd in the moment.

Took me 30 seconds (reviewing images from before and after the shooting) of their devil spawn to come to the conclusion that I would not let him anywhere near a weapon - including a butter knife. For me it’s always the eyes. I would bet a large amount that this kid’s system is awash in psych drugs.

So many of the kids who commit these crimes are taking psych drugs-there should probably be a better safety standard for prescribing those meds for kids-too many things can go wrong...

Seeing 1st hand what psychotropic drugs can do to adult clients-who have taken them on a short-term basis after a work related injury, I agree with your bet-kids are not emotionally mature and have poor impulse control even without drugs-eyes that don’t register any emotion are alarm bells when dealing with an adult-they are likely having a bad reaction/addicted to their meds and/or about to have a psychotic episode-they need to be at a psych facility for a consultation-I’m guessing that is doubled with a kid-or should be...
