We were in Arches, legally, a few days before the incident described. Closure of Utah’s parks was very spotty. We went to Capitol Reef, Bryce and others.

By the time we got to St. George, Utah, some REALLY horrendous winds were slamming into Nevada and Utah. I could barely keep the car on the road. I can easily imagine a normally stationary metal gate becoming airborne in those winds.

Reducing the weight of cars has made passengers more vulnerable.

From the pictures it look like the car was a Chevrolet Malibu. Decent sized car, not a convertible but is a US maker governed by accountants.
