Perhaps but I was guessing the late 90s as I quit cable news in 2001 when they were all chasing gary condit around and every story was about him. (returning briefly Sep 2001 - nov 2001) I thought he had been on tv for several years by then but I seldom watched his show.
He beat Larry King in the ratings and CNN after that.
