Ten of the studies had data supporting the causative link between cannabis and schizophrenia. Eight records had data supporting the exacerbating effect of marijuana. Six studies had data supporting the therapeutic effect of the cannabidiol (CBD) component of cannabis. From the current data, we can conclude that the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) component of cannabis can be the main culprit causing psychosis and schizophrenia in the at-risk population.

f you already have schizophrenia and use the drug, your symptoms may get worse. [...] if you carry certain types of specific genes that affect brain chemistry, marijuana use can raise the chance you’ll have schizophrenia

See my previous post re peanut allergies (sometimes fatal).

Let’s get it done.

It’s simply not worth all the effort and expense.

The cartels are the only thing standing in the way.

Want to fight your traffic ticket at the courthouse in Seattle?

Run the gauntlet.

Remember, no weapons for YOU at the courthouse.

On the other hand, that encampment is an open air drugs and gun market. So good luck!

Yes, and alcohol causes alcoholism.

If you could get only 5% of the alcoholics to quit we’d save billions.

data supporting the causative link

The full paper (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7442038/) shows it's the usual correlation-means-causation junk science: "Per se cannabis does not cause schizophrenia or psychosis. However, we have longitudinal data supporting the causal link between cannabis and psychosis [18]. The causal relationship is not explicit, but there is a minimum link connecting both"

Destroy more people’s lives. Potheads.

Potheads were already destroying their lives before it was legal anywhere - and were enriching violent criminals in the process.

that encampment is an open air drugs and gun market.

So we should ban guns?

The streets ALL reek.

Parents drive up to school and drop off their kids while stoned out if their minds.

“Mommy isn’t up yet” at 1:00 p.m.

Etc. Forever. It’s new. It’s pot to start the day at the bus stop. You can’t even imagine.

I hope you get a pot infested homeless encampment on your lawn, which is now normal here.

You’ll be arrested for trying to do anything about it.

Pot is legal in my state and I have no homeless encampment on my lawn. Do you?

My neighbor smoked a joint in front of me and went from happy, logical, lucid to completely unable to form a sentence in under 5 minutes. With his baby wailing in the background.

Happy days are here again!

That analysis is spot on. I chose my words poorly. I should have said relatively harmless compared to alcohol

In Washington State marijuana laws were selectively enforced against people growing and selling but almost completely ignored for users for many decades. I wasn't sure that legalization would make much of a difference here. But we had a dramatic and immediate uptick in marijuana related emergency medical calls where I was working.

Almost ten years later in many urban areas in Western Washington it has become a nightmare. You literally cannot drive down the road or even the freeway without the skunk like odor of marijuana from the cars ahead of you completely permeating your car. It is not just detectable it is often nearly overwhelming, making your eyes water. On a warm summer evening if you hoped to open your windows to let the air cool off your house... you better not mind the strong odor of marijuana wafting in and filling it. Far more people now smoke marijuana here than tobacco and they do it openly any where ever they please. And they could care less whether they are bothering those around them.

The number of people who are living on the streets in our area has increased by several times and the majority want to do only one thing all day long... smoke pot. Many live in their cars and when they choose to park in front of your house, there is little that you can do about it. I wish that I was exaggerating, but we had three cars with marijuana smoking “homeless” people parked on our block just last night. They poop and pea where ever they want. And it keeps getting worse.

When I first started working most of the bums were alcoholics. Now they are 90% potheads, many of whom supplement pot with alcohol and other drugs. But it is definitely pot which is the substance they abuse the most and constantly. I feel sorry for all of those people in states where they don't have a clue about the dystopian nightmare that is coming.

Despite hard liquor being sold in basically every grocery store and convenience store in the state, legal marijuana now outsells both alcohol and tobacco combined in this state. Sales surpassed $1 Billion dollars in 2019 and partially because of the Covid lockdowns have sky rocketed since then. And largely because the state has a 37% excise tax on legal marijuana... while construction workers were sidelined for Covid, marijuana workers were declared “essential”. The amount of illegal marijuana being sold because of the huge percentage of taxes charged continues to increase. And once it is sold there is no way for the police to differentiate so almost no attempt is made to regulate it.

That sort of thing happened before legalization, and continues to happen with alcohol. It's deeply wrong, but criminalization is clearly not the answer.
