Because it’s not the impeachment trial of the President. He’s not required to preside over this farce so he isn’t going to.

While I agree with your sentiments, you should probably make sure you know what you’re talking about before you call others “idiots”. Impeachment does NOT mean removal from office. Three sitting Presidents have now been impeached, but zero have been removed from office because of a conviction in the Senate. Impeachment is a power of the House, not the Senate, and is the act of making a formal accusation of wrongdoing against a Federal official.

Since the accused wrongdoing occurred while Trump was POTUS, the impeachment is likely valid (though completely meritless). The punishment for conviction is removal from office, obviously moot, and disqualification from holding future office. The second part may be a minor factor in the Dems pursuit of this, but I think it’s unlikely Trump will run again anyway. The real reason for it is to damage Trump’s brand politically so that anyone (whether GOP or third party) will have difficulty getting elected on a MAGA agenda in 2024 and beyond.

This isn’t really about Trump at all IMO, but you’re close. They want to tarnish Trump’s agenda so that another GOP or third party candidate won’t be able to run and win using a MAGA-type campaign. Trump’s not young, and he’s gone through quite a lot over the last 5-6 years since entering the fray. I don’t think it’s likely he will try to run again himself. However, he might support a “Trump’s second term” candidate much like Slow Joe was really a “Obama’s third term”. They want to try to nip that possibility in the bud with this trumped up, (pun maybe intended) phones impeachment.

Yep, I’m sure he’ll “retire” to some lobbying or consultancy position or lucrative private practice.

It is not Constitutional if you consider things, oh, like the actual words written in the Constitution.

In election years, POT and SOCIALIST are inexorably linked...

Because nanny-statists fight tooth and nail to keep conservatives on the unpopular and anti-freedom side of the issue.

Toomey is one of many GOP Trump haters. Glad he’s moving on, he’s childish.

It does the heart good to see how much fear the left has of Trump and his next move they feel like a kid in the graveyard at midnight and hear someone walking.

No. A hundred times no. I truly can’t stand this; it’s a pet peeve of mine. Impeachment is already done. Read the freaking Constitution. The sole power to impeach is given to the House of Representatives. Trump was impeached (twice) while still in office.

We can debate the constitutionality of holding a trial in the Senate to determine whether to convict Trump on the second impeachment. I’m certainly willing to listen to arguments on that; there is no clear language in the Constitution one way or another. The Senate is given the power to impose the punishment of removal from office AND disqualification of the convicted person from holding any Federal office in the future. Therefore the case is not rendered completely moot by the inauguration of Slow Joe.

Of course being constitutional is not the same thing as having merit. Obviously Trump is not guilty of inciting insurrection and there’s essentially no chance that the Dems will get the 67 votes to convict. IMO that’s not the point. The real goal is to try to tarnish Trump’s policies so that a future MAGA candidate will be unlikely to win.

And again, please know what you’re talking about before you insult others. I am neither stupid nor a liberal, but you indeed are objectively and demonstrably wrong on what impeachment is.
