I mentioned the Cuban Missile Crisis because Kennedy, who was looking for some lowering of the tensions between East and West, had chosen not to invade Cuba during the abortive Bay of Pigs invasion in 1960 or immediately afterward. However, he did act decisively to militarily confront the Soviets over stationing IRBMs on the island in 1962. I’ll also note that the negotiations were directly between the US and Soviet Union. Cuba’s opinion was irrelevant although a promise by the US not to invade was made as part of the negotiations that ended the crisis.
I have no faith in a “Slow Joe” Biden administration (should he take office) being pro-active in dealing with the strategic threat posed by an Iranian base in Venezuela. But I do expect that even the globalist, internationalist, socialist tendencies of the Democrat Party will find the presence of Iranian ICBMs and IRBMs on the southern shore of the Carribean Sea unacceptable.
I think we all know what would happen if such a threat emerged under a second Trump presidency.
The base will be neutralized. The only question is by whom and how violently. Hence my lament for the people of Venezuela (and not their government).
