For PC, stage 4, he hung on for a long time.

I remember him on Pitfall in 1981-82. That was the one in which he got screwed out of his salary and a number of contestants their prizes when the show’s production company went bankrupt.

rebek powered through for a full year -- despite what he called "massive attacks of great depression that made me wonder if it was really worth fighting on" -- because he said he realized giving up on life would be a betrayal to his wife, God and other cancer patients. Two family members passed away from pancreatic cancer and they felt the same way he did. In one case my sister in law left behind two young boys (ages 9 and 7) and another case my mother, who passed at 72 from it.
Pancreatic cancer is a horrible, painful cancer. It takes everything one has to fight it for each and every day.
God Bless Alex Trebec, Rest in eternal eace.

Sad news. Seemed like a real nice and decent guy. I have no idea what his politics were and that’s the way it should be. Rest in peace.

I was so sad to hear this, he seemed to be holding his own and I wasn’t aware that he was declining so much.
But pancreatic cancer...I’ve seen what it can do and it is very bad news.

Why do people incessantly compare Heaven as just another version of earthly life?
It needs to stop.

For PC, stage 4, he hung on for a long time. He sure did. He fought the good fight.

I’m sure the first thing Alex heard after passing was Sean Connery saying “Ah, Trebek! Welcome!”.
RIP Mr. Trebek. It seems like you earned it.

Wow. I am shocked and saddened. I knew he probably didn’t have much time left, but he still looked and sounded pretty good on the show. I expected him to retire from the show as his condition worsened. I really did not expect this sudden end. Maybe he planned it this way? RIP, Alex.

And Sean Connery passed away a week ahead of him!
Source material for SNL’s last funny, recurring skit is gone.
