Trump: No
National Review ^ | October 15, 2020 11:17 AM | Ramesh Ponnuru

President Trump has delivered on some important issues. If Roe v. Wade is overturned in the next decade, his appointment of conservative justices will be a cause of a great advance in human rights. He signed a law that included some of the tax relief for parents I’ve been advocating for 15 years, and eliminated the individual mandate that was the most objectionable feature of Obamacare. Whether we’re talking about religious liberty, school choice, or Title IX, Trump’s policies are much better than those of Joe Biden. On many issues, Trump has far exceeded the expectations I had when he won the 2016 election.

I’m still not voting for him.

It’s not because I have exceptionally high standards for presidential candidates, or yearn for the resurrection of the pre-Trump Republican Party, or find it impossible to overlook some points of disagreement with Trump. It’s not even because his continuation in office may in the long run prove destructive of conservative causes. So it may, but keeping the bird in the hand is a good rule of prudence.

I’m not voting for him, rather, because his character flaws keep him from meeting the threshold conditions to be entrusted with the presidency. All presidents have lapses in judgment, honesty, and self-control; many of them have even been wanting, at least sometimes, in decency and public-spiritedness. Trump is alarmingly deficient in all of these qualities at once, and their lack has marked every day of his presidency.

You don’t have to believe any anonymous sources in the news to see it. You need only watch the president and listen to him. On any given day, he will be calling a former member of his administration a “moron,” or taking shots at one of its current members. Or live-tweeting his feelings about the

Bloomberg's shill* at the National Review renews the case for Never Trump. Posted as political humor because it reads like comedy. Yup - Bloomberg gigs pay much better than the National Review. Ponnuru was part of the rot that has seen the National Review shed subscribers like someone sliced one of the magazine's arteries. If it goes on in this vein, it will join the Weekly Standard in the annals of defunct journals of opinion.

* Bloomberg has been saturating the airwaves on behalf of liberal causes using his Everytown for Gun Seizure Safety PAC to the tune of a reported $100m. Every single time his ads come on, I get the urge to stick a pin in a Bloomberg voodoo doll.

Does National Review still have subscribers? We dropped it a good while ago, about the time it launched an attack on Nick Sandmann.

Why I quit my ten plus years of reading NR. This is really stupid from this author particularly in the wake of the mountains of evidence concerning the Biden family and their corruption.

This is the same National Review that was begging for donations last week because they had the courage to support ACB's nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

This Republican Party is so over, folks. By the time Trump gets done with it, there will be nothing left but a bunch of @ssholes like this dope and his Lincoln Project bathhouse buddies who have probably never set foot in any state between the Delaware River and the Rocky Mountains.

The author comes across as someone who thinks he can manipulate the stupid sheeple into voting the way he wants.

In otherwords, as an evil gaslighting sociopath.

Sure. As opposed to Joe Biden, who feels up little girls in public and takes kickbacks from his drug addicted son.

These never-Trumpers can go to hell - all of them. They’re even worse than the dumb-ass leftists.

“I’m not voting for him, rather, because his character flaws keep him from meeting the threshold conditions to be entrusted with the presidency.”

What a tool. Either you entrust Trump with it (and we already have so we know pretty well how he’ll use it), or you trust the Democrats with it (and we know damn well how they’ll use it). This guy prefers the Democrats.

That makes no sense.

By the time President Trump is done with it, it will own the country for the next 20 years, as a re-invigorated party of the working man, the middle class, Constitutionalists, and Patriots.

So, Trump’s character flaws are greater than Biden’s, Pelosi’s, schumer’s, the Deep State FBI, CIA and IRS, Foggy Bottom’s???????? No way in this side of the galaxy or even in our entire dimension.

That is the most ridiculous, absurd, upside down, inside out, bass-ackwards reasoning I have ever heard. . . . Breathtaking.
