I doubt it was anything more than him buckling to peer pressure. Fogerty is an excellent song writer, excellent singer, decent guitar player and a downright decent human being. Last I heard, he sounded great. That was a few (not many) years ago and he’s currently 75,

He rightly deserves being in the R&R HOF both for his work with CCR and his solo work. And Fortunate Son is a great song. I doubt he’ll do more than give this token objection to Trump using it.

The rest of CCR, including brother Tom, contributed almost nothing to CCR songs. What have they done since the band busted up? Nothing you ever heard of....

Does anybody do any research anynore? John doesnt own the ccr catalog. His cease and desist has about as much meaning as your neighbor telling you how high to cut your grass. ( Hoa’s dont apply here)

Interesting about the R&R HOF. What a jerk. I get it that he was the leader and primary creative force of the group, but it was still a *group.* If the group was being enshrined in the HOF, it takes a special sort of a—hole to exclude the actual members of the group from the event in favor of Springsteen et al.

Brian Wilson’s position in the peak-era Beach Boys was comparable to Fogerty’s in CCR, but Brian didn’t/doesn’t treat the rest of the group like garbage. In fact, one could argue that he’s nicer to some of them than they deserve.

Tom Fogerty quit the band a year before the other two founding members walked out on John. The brothers barely spoke until just before Tom died in 1990. John still blames Tom for the problems that caused them to stop speaking.

John is a liberal a-hole. That said, he wrote and sang all the songs and made CCR one of the most successful acts of the era. Without him they would have been just another garage band, yet the others wanted an equal cut and bristled at John's claim to leadership of the band. When John finally told them they each needed to write and sing their own songs, they (absent Tom) wound up producing the awful Mardi Gras album marking the end of the band. I'm actually sympathetic to John's point of view with respect to the band.

Too many hits of acid...

He must be pretty old now as his music was popular in the 1960’s.

Apparently, some people (not meaning you) don’t understand the difference between a cease and desist ORDER and a cease and desist LETTER.

A c&d order is usually issued by an administrative agency and is overseen by an administrative judge. A c&d letter can be sent to anyone for anything, telling you to stop doing something or legal action can/will be taken.

Since President Trump’s campaign has paid the ASCAP/BMI fees, the dude can whine all he wants. He’s receiving the compensation to which he is entitled for song use. When he sold the song to allow its commercial use, he lost the right to say how it can be used.
