The US is to execute a female federal inmate for the first time in almost 70 years, the Justice Department said.

Lisa Montgomery strangled a pregnant woman in Missouri before cutting out and kidnapping the baby in 2004.

She is due to be given a lethal injection in Indiana on 8 December. The last woman to be executed by the US government was Bonnie Heady, who died in a gas chamber in Missouri in 1953, according to the Death Penalty Information Center.

The federal execution of Brandon Bernard, who with his accomplices murdered two youth ministers in 1999, has also been scheduled for December.

US Attorney General William Barr said the crimes were "especially heinous murders".Last year, the Trump administration said it would resume federal executions. How US death penalty capital changed its mind

US government death penalty move draws sharp criticism. The Americans volunteering to watch executions

Who is Lisa Montgomery? In December 2004, Montgomery drove from Kansas to the home of Bobbie Jo Stinnett, in Missouri, purportedly to purchase a puppy, according to a Department of Justice press release."Once inside the residence, Montgomery attacked and strangled Stinnett - who was eight months pregnant - until the victim lost consciousness," it says."Using a kitchen knife, Montgomery then cut into Stinnett's abdomen, causing her to regain consciousness. A struggle ensued, and Montgomery strangled Stinnett to death. Montgomery then removed the baby from Stinnett's body, took the baby with her, and attempted to pass it off as her own.

"In 2007, a jury found Montgomery guilty of federal kidnapping resulting in death, and unanimously recommended a death sentence. But Montgomery's lawyers say she experienced brain damage from beatings as a child and is mentally unwell, so should not face the death penalty.

But her lawyers say she is unwell (apparently unlike those murderers who are well).

Hurry up with the justice deliery.

If she didn’t want to do the time she should have done the crime.

I always tell people the thugs make a snap decision on killing or just beating the victims that society ,sometimes spurred on by leftover narcotics in their brains.

Then the so called system of justice then deliberates, stalls around, takes precedents and loopholes into account, and then may take years more to do anything. Not right.

In a book about the development of victims’ rights, a woman whose husband had been brutally murdered was allowed to go through the prison to see the killer. She was shocked at the men laughing, smiling and joking around. Basketball, TV, music, weightlifting and better computers than hers at home. Some prefer it to the welfare life, others want to get out and commit more crimes against us.

Funny. They say the first time's the hardest.

Too bad there are no laws for journalistic malpractice---which we see every day. The smarmy little punks can't write and they tell us how bad Trump is. Next stop up the ladder: writing copy for Don Lemon or Mika on TV.

Do they need any volunteers to do the injections?

“Even if a civil society were to dissolve… the last murderer in prison would first have to be executed so that each should receive his just deserts and that the people should not bear the guilt of a capital crime… [and] be regarded as accomplices in the public violation of justice”—Emmanuel Kant

Kant was a “pure retributionist”, he believed the murderer’s guilt must be punished regardless of social/subsidiary effects.

Abortion is so easy, execution is so deliberative. Maybe it’s the eyes looking out at you.

Good

many are worse than men yet get lesser sentences

cry a little, blame men a little,

being a victim doesnt work for men, it does for women

plenty of them are deserving of the death penalty as any male criminals up for it

Why can’t the punishment be several-fold worse than the crime? It was acceptable to use on an innocent, so use it as the basis for the punishment.

It can’t be “cruel and unusual” if it was freely chosen by the perp.
