Has Trump Killed Sex Scandals? The Curious Case of Cal Cunningham
New York Magazine ^ | October 2020 | Ben Jacobs

Posted on 10/17/2020 1:04:09 PM PDT by ladyjane

Less than two weeks ago, Democrat Cal Cunningham was the front-runner in the Senate race in North Carolina. A former state senator, a current lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves, and an elder in the Presbyterian Church, the Democrat had been running a belligerently bland campaign against first-term Republican incumbent Thom Tillis. Cunningham filled the airwaves with gauzy television ads and consistently led in polls.

Then his sexts were leaked to a right-wing website.

This article in New York Magazine is trying to convince voters that adultery is no longer a catastrophe for a politician so people can feel comfortable voting for Cunningham. Of course, they blame Trump for this!

"A key factor in this changing world is, of course, Donald Trump. He was elected despite Americans knowing that he was a serial adulterer who actively sought tabloid coverage of his personal life. He even infamously boasted about sexually assaulting women in the Access Hollywood tape."

If a man’s wife announces she’s pregnant is it now ok to ask: “Who’s the father?”

Slugheads is right. They don’t even proofread their lies:

“I’ve certainly heard from a number of people who said if Republicans will vote for Trump than we can’t risk the election over these stupid text messages,”

Than?

Cal Cunnilingus entire. A Laing was based on his “ honor and service.
Screwing a fellow soldiers wife completely torpedos that narrative.

Let’s see, Trump is accused of something he supposedly did some 16 years ago, he is recorded saying something everyone knows about gold diggers and that’s the same as committing adultery with the wife of an active duty military man in his own house in his wife’s bed. Yeah, sure, exactly the same, right.

“...He even infamously boasted about sexually assaulting women in the Access Hollywood tape.”

Perhaps my memory is failing me, but I thought that Trump boasted that when you are rich and famous women will let you do things. Ah yes, here it is: “And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab ‘em by the pussy. You can do anything.”

If ‘they let you do it’ it’s not a sexual assault. And Trump never said that he had done such a thing, let alone boast about it.

So the lies/distortions just keep coming.

This might represent a massive change in political culture. “Twenty years ago, this would have been close to catastrophic,” said Bob Shrum, a veteran Democratic strategist. “The world has changed.”

They are trying to blame on Trump what Bill Clinton got away with, and worse, in 1996.

They’ve got the premise wrong (it has nothing to do with Trump) and the effect wrong (Cunningham is not in such big trouble).

If any Republican had done what this Democrat sleazebag has done, he’d be out of the race after 24/7 hounding by the media.

Instead, Cunningham lost only a few points in the polls and the “scandal” has been declared to be old news, and coverage of it has disappeared from the airwaves (unless Tillis is running paid advertisements about it), and the Democrat politician is still in reasonably good shape to win.

Those very few points he lost *could* end up being costly, but it won’t be totally surprising if they aren’t. The media is covering for him just like they do for Gropin’ Joe Biden and all other Democrats.

In another thread, “journalist” David Brooks is quaking in his boots over what (in his fevered imagination) Trump supporters will do when Democrats steal this election. His fears will never come true, unfortunately, but those in his profession need to be first up against the wall.

>>If a man’s wife announces she’s pregnant is it now ok to ask: “Who’s the father?”<<

If it had come up during the obozo administration, it would HAVE to be asked.

And of course, if it had happened during the bj administration, it would have been “how drunk was web hubbel.”

The New York Magazine would not be the place that I would look if I wanted to know how Tarheel voters would react to and adultery scandal with multiple mistresses.

In states like New York and Kalifornia sex scandals increase a democrat's popularity. But North Carolina isn't Kalifornia...at least not yet.

And that Access Hollywood tape was locker room talk. Guys know...but the typical woman probably *doesn't* know... that guy make boasts to other guys that they're either unwilling,or unable,to make happen. Ted Kennedy *murdered* a woman that he was schtupping. Trump may,or may not, have fantasized about doing certain things.

So this clown has a wife *and* two girlfriends. Hopefully his opponent is running lighthearted ads saying things like "when a married guy cheats of one of his girlfriends with another woman how can we be sure he'll be faithful to North Carolinians?"

He even infamously boasted about sexually assaulting women in the Access Hollywood tape.

A LIE so the writer is another Joseph Gobles telling and repeating the big lie! Trump was commenting on what celebrities COULD get away with in Hollywood's culture!

They are trying to blame on Trump what Bill Clinton got away with, and worse, in 1996.

Go back further with the Democrat's acclaimed "Lion of the Senate", Ted Kennedy on MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. Or JFK or FDR or ... They, the Democrats, are whistling past the graveyard and hoping they can still win by TACTICS, legal and non! Their morality has become a very tattered coat and they are getting no warmth from it!

I agree. I suspect they already realize that Tarheel voters may react negatively. The goal of this article is to convince voters that everybody else is accepting of this so you can too!

Trumư on that tape is saying that these are things he and other such men could get away with because of wealth and celebrity.
