It is my recollection that these "social criteria" that they are now eliminating to supposedly counter racism, were actually added back in the 80's to combat racism.

The idea back then was that minorities were getting lower than average scores, but by giving them points for showing up on time and behaving in class they could get high enough scores to pass.

Sounds rather ironic that the "social criteria" they added to combat racism are now being dropped to combat racism. Very Orwellian.

Regardless, it is also my understanding that schools do not just exist to teach kids reading, writing, and arithmetic. They are also there to teach kids good habits such as showing up on time, behaving properly, completing work on time, etc.

We used to not get credit for all of these "social criteria". These were all just expected of good students who didn't want to get sent to the principals office or expelled.
