WH Investigating ATF Decision to Increase Regulation on Certain Pistols
Breitbart ^ | October 10 2020 | AWR HAWKINS

The White House is investigating the ATF’s decision to increase regulation on Q, LLC’s (Q) Honey Badger Pistol, and the agency is warning that other AR-15 pistols may be targeted as well.

Brietbart News reported that the ATF sent Q a Cease & Desist letter, dated August 3, 2020, announcing a reclassification of Q’s Honey Badger Pistol as a short barrel rifle (SBR). This means the pistol now falls under the purview of the National Firearms Act (1934), as do machine guns, suppressors, and SBRs.

The ATF letter noted that two other Q pistols–the Sugar Weasel and the Mini Fix–may also fall under NFA purview.

OK, this is all about the AFT getting uncomfortable with the popularity of AR-type pistols, with pistol braces.

A Short Barreled Rifle (SBR) is a (heavily) federally regulated firearm that must have a tax stamp, like machine guns.

A short description of the issues is at the following video and shows that the AFT is not saying publicly what is the difference between a SBR and a pistol with a brace.

I really hope some day in the near future, we can get rid of the ridiculous regulation of suppressors and “short barreled rifles”. really, what the hell is the point? Modern powders and projectiles have made 16+” barrels unnecessary at the range that 95% of people shoot, including hunting. And the idea that legal suppressors would result in more murders is ridiculous. It would only result in less tinnitus and hearing loss.

I’ll be the first to admit, AR-15 “pistols” are almost exclusively used to avoid going through the hassle and cost of an SBR stamp, or to cheat the hunting regulations that allow “pistol hunters” to hunt earlier than rifle hunters. Get rid of SBR laws and you get rid of half the problem.

Here in PA a firearm is a firearm.

No early pistol season, though some other states may be different.

We can't use semis except for varmints.

Now, a couple of coyotes don't like my AR "pistol".

Did PA do away with the Primitive Weapon season?

Or as I think of it as Flintlock Season.

MI still has the muzzleloader season, but you can use high-powered rifles at the same time for the same game.

Bow season is now 400+ FPS scope sighted crossbow season.

In other words, what is the point? Just let everyone use whatever blows their dress up.

The former ‘shotgun only zone’ is now scope sighted, 250 yds+ rifle zone, or shotgun if you want poorer accuracies less range.

The original intent was that shotguns and primitive weapons had two important qualities that would support them in having an earlier start to the hunting season.

First was the shorter effective range that allowed for safer hunting. Shorter range means that you are less likely to shoot another hunter that you can’t see down range. Since more hunter want to be out on the first day of the season that added bit of safety was considered important.

The second is less accuracy means that more game will escape being killed in the early season. Since the shotgun or primitive weapon season is usually before the rut begins it also permits more of the big bucks to make it to the rut.

Maybe Michigan’s deer population has got to be a problem and they don’t worry so much about the deer getting to breed.

I know Ohio has had record breaking deer populations recently.

The .450 Bushmaster and the .350 Legend are the hottest new rifles for midwestern deer hunting.

Both will hold 1” 100 yd groups and have 200 yd+ effective ranges.

The .350 Legend is my new choice for deer. They shoot flat with little recoil and smack the deer hard with 150-180 grain bullets.

Slug guns are now cheap on the used market if you can find anyone to buy it.

MI, OH, IN, PA, and Iowa all allow the .350 Legend in their former ‘shotgun only zones’.

Winchester made the first one and developed the cartridge, but everyone is now making them.

This is a Federal agency that should have been dissolved after Waco, and probably long before.

Their entire mission and raison d'être is to hunt down owners of three legal products - and the one product they most enthusiastically suppress through raids, regulations, and decrees is protected by the United States Constitution.

Imagine if we had a Federal agency named: The Bureau of Speech, Religion, and Assembly

But because of bureaucratic inertia, and especially Democrat and tyrannical motivation to harass, arrest, and suppress gun owners, the agency continues to exist and thrive.

Texas has plenty of WMA public lands that are gunfire, handgun(the law says handgun not pistol) and shotgun only. Texas defines handgun specifically and AR pistol with a brace AND a grip that you can use your other hand with is not a handgun which must be capable of being fired exclusively with a single hand. Without the brace and with a heat “shield” a 300AAC or 7.62x39 as long as it is under 26.5” total length and you can hold it up and fire with one hand is perfectly legal on those WMAs I built a 300AAC with a can at 24” no brace and a keymod heat shield with no rails not hand grips specifically for those WMAs

Just let everyone use whatever blows their dress up.

People using short-range weapons don’t want the artillery hunters messing things up for them.

The second is less accuracy means that more game will escape being killed in the early season.

As a practical matter, it just means more wounding and lost game.

“Imagine if we had a Federal agency named: The Bureau of Speech, Religion, and Assembly”

If the left ever attains full government power, you can bet there will be such an agency. It may not have that exact name, the mission will be the same.

The Bill of Rights will be repurposed by the new packed Supreme Court to apply only to the government, and not the people. Example free speech and the right to bear arms will apply only to the government, not the people.

“Slug guns are now cheap on the used market if you can find anyone to buy it.”

In Illinois and Indiana centefire rifles are forbidden weapons for deer. Shotguns with slugs and muzzle loaders are the only legal firearms.
