You know you're over forty when the word "hashtag" brings you out in hives.
But I've tried. I've really tried to join the #hashtag culture. I've #hashtagged with the best of 'em until I had an epiphany.
What if each new, hot hashtag is a subterfuge? A small shiny object spinning to distract us from important news stories they'd rather we forgot so they can sweep them under the rug.
Just ask yourself, "When was the last time I saw #EpsteinDidntKillHimself on a Tweet?".
My point.
Here are some important hashtags/news stories from 2019-2020 I forgot after other hashtags conveniently pushed them off the headlines. I'm sure I've missed a lot. How many do you remember?
2019

Me!? Not many and I've missed so many more important ones!
There's a sense of unfinished business. What ever became of these stories? Or was Justice brushed under the rug because we as a society simply forgot?
2020
Of course in 2020, the coronavirus overshadowed every other hashtag. I fell for it myself! I reckon the whole 1984 crowd were pretty pleased they could get nice, normal people to argue vehemently about a strip of fabric worn over the face.0
It also changed our work, our lifestyles, our normal, our language and unleashed a whole host of new annoying hashtags:

Exactly. That hashtag’s almost been forgotten too. I just learned, when doing some research on hashtags, that the proper name for the symbol is “octothorp.” Who knew!?
