To paraphrase the famous saying by Jack Bergman:

“There’s never enough time to take a piss, but there’s always enough time to stomp and smear Vaseline on books written by conservatives.”

Amazon only allowing reviews from verified purchasers, which is good.

I would highly suggest that anyone receiving a damaged copy of the book...RETURN IT. Amazon already paid for the “free” shipping. They will also pay for the return shipment. Then they’ll pay for the new copy to be shipped out.

“I’ve been ordering more online from Walmart, so far it has been a good experience.”

My experience with Wal-Mart.com is...if you buy thru Wal-Mart.com, but it’s a 3rd party provider, Wal-Mart will not support you if there’s a problem. There isn’t even a way to talk to a human at Wal-Mart.com about the problem. This was a couple years ago, so it may’ve changed. I had to go thru PayPal the get resolution back then. Paypal was incredibly helpful.

Amazon is very easy to return products.

“I received a piece of furniture with the wrapping so torn and ragged...”

I ordered a fiberglass truck bed cover, painted in the truck’s color, from Amazon. I’d already ordered the cover twice thru a local auto parts dealer, and both times it came damaged. (I used a local because, something like this, you want somebody you can get in front of if there’s a problem.) At that point, I decided to buy it from Amazon. Delivery was by appointment with a less-than-a-load (LTL) carrier. I fully expected them to balk at me inspecting inside the box. The box did arrive heavily damaged. The driver (with a helper) flat out told me to open it and inspect it. It was perfect. All together, a good Amazon experience for a huge, fragile item...not so much for the parts dealer even though the parts dealer was very helpful.

I ordered two copies from Amazon and both had obvious smudges all over the front cover. I don’t know what caused the smudges, but they easily wiped off with a damp paper napkin. I don’t think Vaseline would come off that easily, but I have no idea what it was.
