The decimation of the logging industry is exactly why these fires are so bad now. Logging thins the forest and removes the ladder fuel needed to get these fires as big as they are now.
On another note, what is the name of the fire that was approaching Portland? If it was coming from the east, and truly got close to Portland, I would have thought the fire would be burning through hundreds of thousands of homes. Yet I cannot even find this fire except through second hand stories like the one above.

Lion’s Head is the northern fire and Santiam is the one from the south to Portland. Rumor is they merged which is about a 50 mile fire line.
I will look those up, thanks. We here in CA have multiple quarter million acre plus fires going, not to mention many fires in the under hundred thousand acres category, which are our “small” ones.

This has been very difficult for us to watch as close friends of ours lost everything in these current CA and Oregon. Our prayers go out to them, as well all the others affected. The devastation to wild life in the areas is sickening.
We left northern CA because we were not allowed to manage our heavily wooded property and we worried about fires such as these.

Unfortunately, they have driven all the loggers out of the business by now! There is nobody to do the job anymore.
Well, many experts predicted decades and decades ago that if we leave the forest unmanaged, there will be a lot of forest fires.
So - climate change is causing these fires? Fires are adding to global warming according to “climate scientists” so you’d think that ice storms would benefit the climate/GW better. Some of the fires are self generating meaning that they’re causing a local weather phenomenon with lightning striking the ground causing more fires.
He wants it to be over so they can institute their Green Raw Deal rather than manage the forests properly. It’s easier to blame conservatives than admit your communist cult is fake.

Turns out the number is the people under prepare to evacuate orders. The actual evacuations is 40,000.
