Renting an RV during a pandemic showed me how road trips are different right now. Here's what to expect before you go.

I’ve made round 3 trips from WV to IN since the virus started. My wife has made 4.

My son has driven twice from WV to CA.

No real problems.

I have a SeaRay 240, with accommodations pretty much like the ones described in this article for a RV. Big problem is the head (AKA bathroom). Pot’s so small I prefer to sit on the bowl and don’t even ask about the kind of contortionist you need to be to use the shower. When I was cruising with it I always stayed nights at marinas where I showered and ate, not aboard the boat. I’d recommend a larger boat and watch out for the fuel capacity and range. This year a lot of the marinas on the TN River have been all or mostly closed. Call ahead in advance.

“..Wisconsin when a hotel requested our travel papers to get a room.”

What, uhhh, travel papers were those?

Um...RVs have a generator, fridge, microwave and stove. Eating is a non-issue. Gasoline was never an issue. Full campsites in the summer months, yeah, many were booked. Author’s a wuss.

Exactly. Guy rents an RV and complains about two things people in an RV don't have to worry about, restrooms and restaurants.

Which is why RV purchases and rentals are skyrocketing.

You can escape ALL the Karen bullcrap and have a great time.

My husband and I bought a used RV just as all the shutdown BS was happening - we've been having glorious fun. And we haven't had any issues getting diesel.

Of course, we've just been traveling throughout our home state of Florida, which is basically still America.

It is most certainly linked to ‘whiteness’.

” Karen

[ kair-in ]
What does Karen mean?

Karen is a pejorative slang term for an obnoxious, angry, entitled, and often racist middle-aged white woman who uses her privilege to get her way or police other people’s behaviors.

As featured in memes, Karen is generally stereotyped as having a blonde bob haircut, asking to speak to retail and restaurant managers to voice complaints or make demands, and being an anti-vaxx , Generation X soccer mom.

In 2020, Karen spread as a label used to call out white women who were captured in viral videos engaging in what are widely seen as racist acts.”

Route 66 is a 4-lane (or more) highway now. It’s called I-40 from the west coast to Oklahoma City then I-44 to Kansas City then I-70 to St. Louis then I-50 something to Chicago.

I give you that it is not a boulevard anywhere that I am familiar with. In many many areas though the original 2-lane Route 66 exists as a very interesting state highway route if you’re not in a hurry.

My wife and I traveled through several states during the height of the shutdowns. Our solution for restrooms and food was to seek out grocery stores.

My wife and I took a road trip from Maryland thru the UP of Michigan in July. Other than wearing masks not much different than normal. About to take a cross country road trip in two weeks, if there’s a state subject to quarantine like New Mexico I’ll just drive thru. Although this year is different, September and October are the best months for a road trip, weather is still good, roads and parks have emptied out.

You are wrong and Mortman is correct. The right started the Karen memes. Just because some stupid Democrats that can’t meme on their own tried to steal it and make it about race, doesn’t mean Karen is racist it’s not. Just so happens that most of the Karen vids are of crazy white gals. So what? White People are the majority of the population.

So this slang has been redefined as late as this year...why? To stifle language further? Whoever did that was pretty niggardly...

We usually travel from TX to NY at Christmas to see family. Right now, NY requires a 2-week quarantine when I get to NY.

Doesn’t look like we will have Christmas with the family.
