I have a friend of Swedish extraction, originally from Wisconsin. We built a pair of ultralight airplanes together; U-2 Flying Wing planes with pusher snowmobile engines. We never flew them. They had 30 ft wingspan but were only around 10 ft long, so they were very unstable pitch-wise. Just as we were getting the fabric on them and doped ready to paint we began to get stories of other guys who built them losing control and “buying the farm” when they crashed. So we pulled the engines, fuel tanks, seats, wheels; and made a bonfire of the rest. I had named mine “Air Farce One”. His wife, early on, had told him he’d “fly that thing over my dead body”. So he named his plane “Thump-Thump”. We are both private pilots, so we had to stick with real airplanes. And BTW, he once asked if I knew what’s dumber than a dumb Norweigian. Answer: A smart Swede.
