Proving once again that Donald Trump is a friend to America’s religious communities, the president reversed a Navy cost-cutting decision that would result in not renewing the contracts of priests serving Catholic naval personnel. Trump tweeted, “The United States Navy, or the Department of Defense, will NOT be canceling its contract with Catholic Priests who serve our men and women in the Armed Forces so well, and with such great compassion & skill. This will no longer be even a point of conversation @CardinalDolan.”

The Archbishop Broglio of the Archdiocese for the Military Services USA, responded to the move by the Navy on Tuesday, urging them to reconsider.

For some time now, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, has been engaged with the Navy Chief of Chaplains and has been trying to meet with those responsible for this decision. Archbishop Broglio noted the savings from cancelling these contracts amounts to a mere 250-thousand dollars—approximately 0.000156% of the Navy’s budget. “It is difficult to fathom how the First Amendment rights of the largest faith group in the Navy can be compromised for such an insignificant sum,” Archbishop Broglio said. His Excellency expressed hope the Navy will reconsider the decision.

The quick reversal of the policy, like the recent flap between President Trump and Mark Esper, Secretary of Defense, points to a tension between the president and top brass in the military. Esper publicly disagreed with the president about invoking the Insurrection Act to quell the riots across the country indicating that the military might not obey orders.

The woman he overruled is the one who took bribes in Malaysia so they promoted her. Then she took over the seal prosecutions.

One of the top priorities in Trump’s 2nd term needs to be the immediate termination of all the Leftists Obama promoted. Clean house. Wipe out a large chunk of the top brass - kinda like Obama did when he fired a lot of American patriots in the military to promote his chosen leftists.

Then bust up Big Tech.

Then slap another round of heavy tariffs on China to force further economic decoupling.

My ex-pastor had a long career as an Army chaplain.
He retired with the rank of Brigadier General.
The least likely looking General you’d ever want to meet.

If it turns out that President Trump needs an ‘army’ his current one is between 60-70 million strong...with more ‘Deplorables’ signing up every day!

The ‘problem’ with the military is, was and always will be - 0bama, Clinton and Socialist Democrats in power at any level.

Until the last traitor within the ranks is finally retired or drummed out, nothing is going to change. :(

1)Esper was right about the Insurrection Act; Trump knows this, but his “negotiating” style (read any of his books) is to throw it out there and let it stew and cause conversation
2)Navy was wrong to cancel contracts for Mass; Trump was right to say no.
3)Trump was right about military brass and military industrial complex liking war/conflict because it keeps them employed, relevant and producing/buying things
4)Trump is playing the role of the civilian commander in chief who will not allow us to get into useless conflicts/wars, etc., much to the chagrin of the MIComplex
5)There is no “flap” between Trump and the military. It is a made up talking point by the Democrats and never-trumpers for political and career gain and for things to return to the “way they were”.

Obama’s attempt to control the military for the Left was merely what was visible.. There’s still a lot going on under the surface.

I frequently see military people in uniform in my area. I used to look on with respect and often thanked them. Now I look on and wonder if they are Patriots or sjws who signed up for the benefits so I keep quiet and move on.

I have seen the film of US troops who gathered for services before D Day.

I don’t know or understand why THAT is something to omit from their activities either before, during or after engagement.

In the end, Liberals will want to remove the flag, the oath of office or all insignia identifying who we are and what we believe. Sheeesh.

I remember what my Uncle said about his trips (& of then) to Mermansk during the US convoy missions to the USSR. We delivered weapons, amo, food, medicine, vehicles, equipment of all kinds, etc. Joe Stalin insisted that NO object offloading at Mermansk could display the US flag or any other indication of where supplies came from. Nice, huh?

I equate Stalin’s demands to American Liberals’ ingratitude, paranoia, pathologically unreasonable drive to unman and neuter our military.

That strategy doesn't work if your deputy immediately says 'don't listen to him, if he did that we'd all quit and he'd be fired'. My problem with Esper is that he ran to a microphone to announce that he disagreed with his boss and hint that he'd support taking down the President (which is the only possible outcome if the military refused to follow him). Even if Trump was just blowing smoke to try to back these foolish governors into actually protecting their citizens it was not Esper's place to announce that the military did not support him.

Correction: trips to Mermansk (7 of them) - and live to tell about it.

First of all, much of the problem between the White House and DoD is due to Trump holding Esper and others accountable for their requests, which places elements of the DoD budget and future programs in jeopardy. He asks tough questions of Esper, the Joint Chiefs, etc. - questions that they can’t answer to his satisfaction, placing their future hiring by Lockheed, Northrup Grumman, Raytheon, Leidos, etc., in jeopardy. Take a look at the boards of directors and corporate leadership of those and other companies and see how many retired generals, flag officers and senior DoD officials obtain very high-paying positions upon retirement; I know quite a number of them.

Oh, and if the SecDef tells the president that some members of the military might not follow orders from the president, he needs to be fired - NOW!

I’d rather think there is a link between #4 and #5.

#4, yes Trump is a civilian CinC but commanding the Armed Forces instead of the Armed Forces commanding hi. They don’t like that, meaning...

#5, the old guard (neo-conservatives) and opportunists of war are in a flap with POTUS and they think they can win because of public sentiment for piss-ants like Powell, McNoName and the complicit no-Trumps like Romney, etc.

As long as the seditious media gives these LOSERS ink, we will continue to fight against “anonymous” bullsh!t artists.

True, and perhaps Trump floated the trial balloon to see who would “run to the microphone”....

Oh come on....Esper did exactly what PDJT told him to do.

You do understand with the National Guard, they had intel that the protestors were going to shoot other protestors dressed as a National Guard. This is why the NG were not armed per Esper and PDJT’s orders. Those fake NG were going to wear helmets, so Esper changed the head gear.

IF Esper was going against PDJT, he’d already be gone.

The top brass was promoted into position by Obama and he demanded democrat/liberal loyalty. To that end, I do not trust a single military officer above O-5.
