Tales from America’s COVID college campuses
The Mass Illusion ^ | Augst 29,, 2020 | Jordan Schachtel

Posted on 08/30/2020 8:58:22 AM PDT by Fiji Hill

America’s college students are returning to campus for the Fall semester, and many are finding themselves in an environment that no longer resembles an academic institution, but something closer to a correctional facility for young adults. It’s not just a handful of schools that are pursuing extreme restrictions and punitive measures in the name of “stopping the spread” of the coronavirus, but something that has become a nationwide norm. College campuses have transformed into some of the most restrictive environments in America.

Yesterday, after hearing about these conditions, I sent out a post on social media asking for testimonials from students, parents, and educators. The responses below are some of the many replies I received discussing what students are experiencing in colleges and universities that have allowed for their return to campus:

University of Alabama

“The whole thing is a bait and switch. We're being forced to pay to attend Zoom classes in our rooms all semester. A few of my friends didn't even come back to town, and I don't blame them. Why would they when they can get the same education at home?

I only have two in person classes. Both meet one day a week. One is optional to go on Zoom if you prefer. The other allows five students in class at once. We're going on shifts so Week 1 the first five go, then Week 2 the second five go, etc.”

I love this university but if I knew when I was in high school that I'd be staying in my room all day, I would've never gone to any college.”

This is an excerpt. There are about 30 more colleges and universities listed. It is mind-boggling that this is happening in America.

Vanderbilt University

“No roommates ... all online classes, no in person activities, dining halls closed, libraries closed except under very strict guidance, no visiting another dorm room, 6-ft distance at all times, masks mandatory when not in dorm room, cannot leave the Nashville area, circles drawn on quad area, threats of suspension/expulsion for first offense, security guards posted throughout campus to enforce rules, kids encouraged to report non-compliance, etc.

After having been on campus for a week, my daughter has not met nor spoken to a single person. She is in her dorm room in front of her computer at almost all times, and the only times she really leaves are when she picks up her to-go meals. This is a very depressing situation.”

Creighton University

“11 days to get the required COVID test back. Isolated the whole time. No in person eating at the dorms as a norm. Training in the heat with masks for hours. Masks 24/7 on campus inside and out. Social isolation. 2 classes a week in person, everything else virtual. Can’t come home until end of fall semester as you can’t travel more than 100 miles from Omaha. Aren’t allowed to go anywhere or do anything except local restaurant pick ups and run to the store. If you are mildly exposed to a person with COVID, 14 day mandatory quarantine.”

College of Charleston

Anon 1: “They are forcing them to all get tested, they can’t have anyone at all in their dorms, all common areas are closed except laundry. A lot of places to eat are still closed. Charleston has a mask mandate. They’ve got these kids, especially first year students terrorized.”

Anon 2: “Mandatory masks and distancing or face suspension on 1st offense. Dorm policy even more draconian.”

It’s heartbreaking. My heart breaks for all student in the United States right now, from K through college.

Everybody is remote, or “hybrid” (half the class at home, staggered) right now. Perhaps only 10% of the entire US is fully in person right now. It will be more obvious after Labor Day just how shut down all schools are.

The little ones are crying and hating “school” sitting in front of laptops all day.

One third of students in LA never even logged in once last Spring.

Teens are denied friends, sports, music, dances, activities—any normal high school experience.

College students are subjected to a “bait and switch” where they are told classes will be in person, they pay the full tuition, and then colleges announce it is the students’ fault for having parties and then switch to online.

Meanwhile all education at all levels is subpar, and the rest of the civilized world has reopened schools. In Europe and Asia, schools are the last to close and the first to reopen. They all prioritize children and education more than the United States.

In person education is critical infrastructure (like meat packing plants) so parents can go to work and the United States can have an educated workforce and citizenry and military.

These closed schools are a national security issue and I hope Trump will sign an executive order after the election so that they are reopened. He declared in person education essential a couple of weeks ago. There are too many teachers who vote in swing states to order reopening now.

When I was in college, we ate sliced turkey with mashed potatoes and white gravy five days a week. Stop wining, maybe you should take a year off.

Vanderbilt has completely left the rails.

Vanderbilt’s student body has a large Red Chinese exchange student enrollment.

That seems to be reflected in their socialist dictates on the Wuhan Virus.

One problem with everyone taking a “year off” is that those students will now be competing for spots next year with current HS seniors (I have a HS senior and he’s worried about this).

The other problem with gap years is that they can permanently delay economic prosperity for that cohort—they will kind of languish for a year as internships are way down, they can’t travel as would be traditional during a gap year, and the economy is bad (hard to find employment during the gap year).

Why are rational human beings still funding these indoctrination-centers ( aka “ universities ) ?

There are much, much cheaper ways to pursue a great career.

This what abject fear results in ... loss of freedom and personal control of your own life .... particularly personally devastating when you think about how free America was just a few months ago ... before the advent of tyranny-by-governor was instituted and which has taken hold due to increasingly irrational fear.

I didn’t realize there was a COVID crisis on campuses. Are the infirmaries full to overflowing? Since the student population is part of the low risk group is the spike among faculty and staff (much older age group)? Why doesn’t the CDC keep separate statistics on this “vulnerable” sector? Is this just another gross exaggeration of the media driven myth?

Great points.

Tenured and union ppl most vulnerable to infection, it appears. 😉

Perhaps Turning Point USA could do an exposé on this!

When will ‘they’ realize that the degree in ‘ancient habits of cats’ doesn’t even get you into the Veterinarian Work Force.

Of course one of the real problems is JOBs ‘requiring’ a degree of sorts, even on the lower echelon (IMNSHO it is to ‘restrict’ who they ‘have’ to hire in a lot of cases)

Used to be one would get out of the Military in decent shape and a ‘working mind’ and LEO opened its arms to you.

Somewhere along the line the standards dropped and LEO started requiring some college credits etc.

Yes, the ex GIs turned out some head knockers but people had a ‘respect’ for the police when they were policing.

Now too much emphasis on a para military Police Force, pushing the Andy Griffiths out while embracing Barney Fife and a bevy of out of shape women.

Look at MOST of our D Led Metropolis’ today.

At the top— Mayor or Chief of Police there is either a Female/Female of Color/and in some cases Males that either think they are Fs or are ‘scared of their own shadow’.

While they have their OWN paid for ‘protection’ (Pols and ‘upper management elitists’) they are wanting to take OUR guns away and defund the Police.

After making Urban police forces into Military Units, ‘they’ discourage the people that can actually use them and too many times recently, the Cops in large cities are instructed to back down even though they have more fire power than a lot of outfits in WWII combat zones.

It is reminiscent of back in the day when ALL departments of cities ‘needed’ 4WD SUVs for when having to work in ice and snow conditions. Good idea BUT the general rule of them is that if it is bad enough to NEED the 4WD a lot of cities shut down, leaving the 4WD ‘fleet’ parked while requesting private citizens to ‘go pick up people who are necessary’ etc....

Yet, these same ‘leaders’ and ideas keep getting reelected and people have even got out of the wringing of hands and asking ‘Why?’, just going along to get along.

I agree, Babba Gi! STOP YER WHINING! Poor muffins (not)

When I was in college, we lived on the trifecta...
no-name brand mac n cheese, no-name brand hotdogs, and canned tuna...Think of the combination:

just mac
mac ‘n dog’s
mac ‘n tuna “casserole”
just dogs
just tuna

then repeat the cycle

All prepared in a Roly Hot Pot that we snuck in - no microwaves around then - and plug in appliances were a no no

On the bright side, just think of all the liberal indoctrination that is NOT taking place on college campuses; no leftist political rallies, speakers, voter registration etc

In the sixties, police didn't have the sophisticated military equipment that they do today, but not one police station was abandoned, looted or burned by hte rioters. An attack on a police station by rioters would have been suicide..

Growing up in the 50s you learned that you just didn’t disrespect police etc and you definitely looked over your shoulder before doing something ‘stupid’ because in your mind you knew a Nun was watching or a voice would say

“Smile, You’re on Candid Camera”

and Allen Funt would shove a mike in your face”. (some 65 or so years later, still on the lookout for Funt)
