Do you mind saying what part of the country (NW, N, Rockies, etc)?
It was 98º, in SE TX, today with a ‘feels like’ of 102º (and humidity of around 65%.

Nazis did something similar to the Jews who fled Germany. You are referring to the Reichsfluchtsteuer.
In the "German Democratic Republic" (now-defunct East Germany), there was also the crime of Republikflucht.
