President Donald Trump will withdraw the nomination of William Perry Pendley as director of the Bureau of Land Management in the face of criticism over Pendleys anti-environmentalist views and advocacy for selling off federal lands.
A White House official confirmed the news Saturday, a day after Outdoor Life broke the story.
The decision is almost certainly influenced by the awkward position in which Pendleys nomination put Republican Sens. Cory Gardner (Colo.) and Steve Daines (Mont.) ― two close Trump allies facing tough reelection bids. Both earned rare points with the conservation community with the passage of a major public lands package that they helped champion through Congress, and a vote to confirm Pendley would have undercut if not entirely spoiled that victory.

Trump should name Sarah Palin for the job.
McConnell would just sit on her nomination too.
Agree!!
And, I would double dog-faced pony dare McConnell to stall that nomination ;-)
I think you meant to say dog-faced pony soldier. It’s all the rage now after hip old Joe said it.
You get the idea :-)
Trump Jr. would be good at it!
POTUS should tweet that just for trolling purposes.
Well, he's right on there. Almost all federal lands INCLUDING national parks are unconstitutional land grabs and should be returned to the states.
Trump's legal advisors should be informing him of these things but I don't think they're as savvy on the massive federal violations of the Constitution as they should be.
McConnell cannot instruct Senators how to vote, especially when they are running for re-election and the vote would hurt them.
What is an anti-environmentalist? Since the term environmentalist has come to mean individuals who regard bugs and lizards as more important than people, isn’t an anti-enviro a good guy?
Steve Daines will win by at least 5 percent.
That’s what the Puff Post calls tough re-election bid.
And Gardner is toast regardless of whether Pendley had been confirmed or not. It's McConnell not doing his job again.
McConnell can bring it to the floor for a vote and he can keep his caucus in line. Or then maybe not. He isn't a Schumer or Pelosi.
Fixed it.
Quit defending the mostly unconstitutional totalitarian feds who are the greatest threat to our Free Constitutional Republic.
If the land belonged to the U.S. before the state was admitted then it still belongs to the U.S. It wasn't obtained from them, legally or illegally.
Nope. Land that becomes a state was previously some kind of federal territory. Constitutionally, after the land becomes a state, ALL the land belongs to the state and the constitutional provision cited is the only way the feds can constitutionally own land within a state.
I have no idea what Constitution you're referring to.
Schumer isnt a better leader.
All 45 Democrats, both Independents, and 25-30 Republicans are radical leftists. It is not a matter of each leader keeping his caucus in line. Schumers got the votes he needs whenever he needs them. McConnell does not.
I'm sure you don't. I'm sure your think that if its NOT forbidden in the U.S. Constitution, then it must be OK for the feds.
But that is NOT the presumption of the of THE U.S. Constitution which created the feds and delegated certain limited enumerated powers to the feds outside of which the feds have no power.
Read and re-read the Ninth and Tenth Amendments which explain all of this. Also read and re-read the Declaration of independence which presumptively frames the Constitution.
