Would Donald Trump Ditch the GOP and Start His Own Party in 2024?
The National Interest ^ | 08/02/2020

Posted on 08/02/2020 8:17:42 PM PDT by Kevin in California

Imagine this: Donald Trump loses the 2020 election and runs again in 2020 under his own party. Don't think it can't happen? History says it could.

The presidential election of 1912 was one of the only cases where one of the top-two competitors didn’t represent a major political party -- the Democrats or the Republicans. Although a Democrat took the White House, a member of the Bull Moose Party trailed behind, receiving nearly 30 percent of the popular vote.

Looks like the editor missed something in the first paragraph. Shouldn’t that read 2024?

I agree with you. But, the authors scenario were President Trump lose is a very viable scenario. The 63.5 MILLION Trump supporters are by every poll taken rock solid in our support over the feckless and ineffective “Republicans”.
In fact, Hussein is so very concerned about our support for President Trump he addressed a group of major Dem donors just two days ago about his serious concern about this fact.

If a some future date, the GOP nominates a Bush/Romney type, I won’t vote for them. If Trump Jr runs as a 3rd party, you bet I’d support him.

There is no rerunning. Don Jr is the crown prince, the heir apparent, who will succeed the King.

Hopefully it will be a decisive reelection victory for President Trump. Perhaps America will realize that Democrats have gone too far left so they will pay the price on Election Day.

He'd be 78 by 2024. Plus, a whole lot of Republicans who have backed him to this point because he is the nominee would abandon him if he lost the nomination but split the party. It'd be a guaranteed loss in 2024.

So no, he won't.

The Bush/Romneys are opposed to most of what conservatives believe in. They pretend to support those things to get our votes.

No he won’t

Instead he is doing a hostile takeover of the existing party.

No.

Silly of people to think the “swamp” can be extracted from governance.
It can only be controlled.
No large government can be run without a “swamp”- and established political parties are their anchors.

“ Donald Trump loses the 2020 election and runs again in 2020”

That’s not possible.

He already has a party, he won it in 2016.

Or a “starting point” in case of the obvious result. You wouldn’t grow a base starting in 2024.

Maybe Trump will borrow a particular Delorean and return to 2020 to run again?
