AUSTIN (KXAN) — Coming off her Senate District 14 victory, former Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt said the Texas Legislature has an opportunity to “right wrongs” in regard to racial inequality and called the recent death of a Black Lives Matter protester in Austin an “epic failure” of leadership and policy.

Garrett Foster, 28, was shot multiple times after a car turned into a group of demonstrators at Black Lives Matter protest in Austin on July 25. Police said that Foster was carrying an AK-47 type firearm when the car turned into the roadway and approached the driver’s side window as other demonstrators “began striking the vehicle.”

The driver of that car who turned into the crowd told police they had fired a handgun at someone who approached their driver-side window and pointed an assault-type weapon at them. APD has not indicated that Foster ever fired his weapon.

Rely on what, Eckhardt? Helllooooo...rely on WHAT? Go ahead, say it!!!

Now, the news is questioning whether or not Garrett fired his AK47 when from audio it is OBVIOUS that he did not, but he DID point the rifle at the driver. Implied meaning is that now the evil person has to have a chance to shoot you dead before you can defend yourself. These people are so evil they must be ... I'll not say that right now. We won't talk about that right now....

If I am carrying a weapon for self defense, I will not wait to be shot before I use it. There is no good reason to come to a peaceful protest carrying a rifle. There is no good reason to try to intimidate a driver with a rifle.

The azzhole got exactly what he had coming to him.
He pointed a weapon into the face of another person.
The other person, in fear of their life, responded accordingly. End of story.

You are a flaming racist, self-centered, heartless, heathen, God-forsaken, demon-possessed individual for having a prejudicial view towards someone pointing a rifle at you with milliseconds to go before he pulls the trigger. Wretch.

Remember Obama’s Rules of Engagement in Afghanistan?

Our Soldiers could not Fire their Weapons unless they were Fired upon first.

She is absolutely right. Austin had allowed AK guy over 50 consecutive nights the opportunity to terrorize good people. Thank God he died instead of someone innocent.

KXAN is a one of the fifth-column enemydia TV stations in Austin.

Better to read the American Thinker article, "Details emerging about fatal shooting of BLM ‘protester’ in Austin, TX are stunning."

The car approached the driver’s side window?

This is branding a deadly weapon as the driver’s means of travel is being assaulted by a mob.

This is a classic case of “fear for your life”.

These same Leftists were on the side of the Gentle Jogger in Georgia trying to kill 2 men who attempted to stop him in the road and said it was justifiable self defense as they were brandishing a weapon.

The only thing I agree with is that she holds the democrat administration responsible for the guy’s death. The mayor and administration is 100% responsible for this death, the burning, the destruction, the rapes, the assaults, the murders.

The dead guy deserved to die because he assaulted an innocent person who had the right to defend himself.

The guy who shot the criminal is innocent of any wrongdoing. The town administration needs to be placed in prison, after being stripped of all their assets.

His attorney's statement pretty well wraps it up with statements from witnesses. Case closed.

Finally and most importantly, police have interviewed witnesses who were demonstrating with Mr. Foster and these witnesses have confirmed that Mr. Foster raised his assault rifle in a direct threat to Sgt. Perry’s life.

Combat grunts from Vietnam thru 'Stan conflicts are used to this BS from the overseers. The ROE 'rules of engagement' have seesawed so many times they were expected to question every shoot if they were in any zone that a civilian might be present. The "don't shoot unless fired upon" killed way too many a US soldier under the LBJ/Obama micromanaged militaries in combat zones.
