Nice term, I’m going to use that.

Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

Rand Paul is exactly right on this part:
“We cannot give up liberty for security. Local law enforcement can and should be handling these situations in our cities”

Not so much on this part:
“ but there is no place for federal troops or unidentified federal agents rounding people up at will,”

Way I see it, it’s perfectly legal for Trump to send federal security forces to secure federal establishments in Portland.
When it comes to quelling riots outside the range of federal establishments, Trump may have to invoke The Insurrection Act 1807 or other emergency laws to deal with insurrections. He hasn’t done any if that yet.

If it weren’t for DHS coming in the federal courthouse would now be destroyed. Police have been told to stand down by the local rat politicians.

That’s why we don’t have many principled people in politics.
We need more people with principles that they don’t give up for expediency even if it hurts them politically.

They certainly can protect federal property. Not helpful, Rand.

I believe Paul was a plant. Meant to give some satisfaction to those who hate Trump. Maybe even take some wind out of their sales. Everyone except the rabid lefties knows the riots are complete farces and need to be blown up. Even Rand Paul. And Trump is making hard choices...makes him to be a man of decisive action. Why can I believe that scenario?....well I haven’t seen Paul heading over to the democrat party lately.

President Trump is tired of local politician’s requesting emergency rebuilding money when they themselves failed to act.

But when local authorities slack in their duties, local militia is necessary, minus that, should it fall to the feds?

National right to carry sen. Paul, now!

Ordinary folks in Portland are at risk. Rights and freedoms have not taken a holiday.

If true ...

The suit includes the chilling experience of Portland resident Mark Pettibone. He recounted being snatched off the street, locked up in a cell in an unknown location, not told why he was detained nor provided access to an attorney -- then suddenly released without any citation, paperwork or record of his arrest.

... being opposed to this is not the same as being opposed to federal legal arrest, detention, and prosecution. My point is that there may be some nuance to the objection.

On the other hand, this sort of detention is not uncommon, in general, and it is useful and necessary in some circumstances. For example, part of a "break it up" action wehre protesters are blocking a street. "The system" sets requirements that are impossible to meet in a mass or urgent circumstance.

To be fair to the Son-Of-A-Nut, I do not know enough about what the Feds are doing yet. I doubt the Son-Of-A-Nut knows much more than I do. His knee-jerk response is the same as the ACLU and the worst of the left though...

Yes, and the President’s ads have been showing the contrast pretty well.

I hope in his press conferences about COVID he will find a way to talk about the violence, how the leftists are allowing and supporting it, and what the future holds in terms of mob rule and lawless activities should Biden be elected.

The press would holler if he does that, but the stakes are high - Americans need to know what’s going on.

At some point it seems that Article 4 section 4 of the US Constitution must be relevant:

Article 4, Section 4 The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

Can mob rule and governors & mayors ruling by decree possibly be considered as a Republican Form of Government?
