Navajo Nation suggests new name for Washington Redskins that 'honors and respects the First Americans
The Blaze ^ | July 13, 2020 | Breck Dumas

The Washington Redskins announced Monday that they would be retiring their team nickname and logo, but had not yet decided on their new moniker. In short order, the Navajo Nation offered a new name they believe would be a fitting replacement for the NFL franchise.

Two hours later, Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez released a statement celebrating the Washington, D.C., area team's move, while noting that the franchise made its decision due to "mounting pressure and advocacy of Indigenous peoples...and many other warriors who fought long and hard for this change."

You will be pleasantly surprised at the name they chose. Scroll down to the statement by the Navajo President. Though I think it's silly to change the names...Cancel Culture and all...I could approve this one!

The “Redskins” was a good name that honored American Indians that were not whiney babies. Code Talkers is just not a team name.

They should completely dump any reference to, or relation to the Indians. Change the brand completely. Why do these people think we need to “honor” their culture? It’s a team nickname, not a monument. If we are going to tear stuff down, let’s tear it all the way down.

Washington Code Talkers?

Hell, this is a Washington D.C. team we’re discussing. Wouldn’t ‘Washington Bull Shitters’ or ‘Washington Liars’ or ‘Washington Grifters’ be more suitable?

“Code Talkers”

As a businessman, Snyder might want to appeal to his (dwindling) paying fan base instead.

Code Talkers would be apt. At least 90% of the team speaks unintelligible Ebonics anyway.

Asians are the First Americans

Excerpt:
“So who were the people who really deserve to be called the first Americans? VOA asked Michael Bawaya, the editor of the magazine American Archaeology. He told VOA that they came here from Asia probably ‘no later than about 15,000 years ago.’

“They walked across the Bering land bridge that back in the day connected what is now the U.S. state of Alaska and Siberia. Fifteen-thousand years ago, ocean levels were much lower and the land between the continents was hundreds of kilometers wide.”

"Really? Code Talkers?
Washington Code Talkers?"

Ah, come on, you got to love the Navajos.
But seriously, this is football, not tennis or chess.
The team needs a real warrior name, like our Apache or Black Hawk helicopters.

I could suggest many, but here are just two:

  1. Little Turtles -- in honor of the leader of the Miami Indians at the Battle of Wabash River in 1791, "the most decisive defeat in the history of the American military" -- a US defeat only rivaled by:

  2. Sitting Bulls -- in honor of the inspirational leader of the Lakotas at the Battle of Little Big Horn, Custer's Last Stand.

Now those are real warrior names, not just "Code Talkers".
Those names should strike fear in the hearts of anyone who's ever read a smidgen of American History -- which of course, most haven't, but maybe they'll wonder a bit, and look a little further... ?
