The Trump administration is cracking down on leakers by planting information to see if it gets out to reporters, reports Axios.

President Donald Trump’s chief of staff "[Mark] Meadows told me he was doing that," one former White House official told the news outlet. "I don't know if it ever worked."

Politico last week reported that the Trump administration opened an internal investigation to try to uncover who leaked intelligence about Russians paying the Taliban to kill American soldiers following a New York Times report titled, "Russia Secretly Offered Afghan Militants Bounties to Kill U.S. Troops, Intelligence Says."

“That’s the way it’s been done for, like, ever...............”

Of course it has and the beauty of it is there is no violation of anyones right to privacy by illegal means. The leakers indict themselves by illegally leaking information.

Change a few words here and there or drop a false story once in a while on the most trusted and we will see the leaker.

:: the Trump administration opened an internal investigation to try to uncover who leaked intelligence about Russians paying the Taliban ::

The revealing of the method serves the same purpose.
The intelligence about Russia was also planted (canary trap) to reveal leakers.

Meadows is simply telling the media that someone will be swallowing hard in the near-term and resigning soon after.
The WH knows who.

The leakers should be easy to identify. Start with Trump family members.

And the New York Times headline is “Trump generates fake news.”

This is how Axios and Politico get the warning out to their source with a ‘story’ like this. This is the leftist version of John Has A Long Mustache.

The method can also be a lot of fun.

You can tell a staffer something wacko like “the WH is investigating rumors that Nancy Pelosi is really a reptilian alien” and see where it goes....

;-)

That report itself was a planted fake story and has likely already identified another deep state saboteur.

I recall some older muckity muck talking about the efforts to track down high level leakers in government, and the person said that when administrations looked for leakers, they more often than not figured out who the leaker was. His implication was that in each case, the leaker was effectively too senior or entrenched to do anything about, or the administration was too polite to go on about naming him or her.

I think Bolton fell for this. My vote is the Russian Taliban story. He seemed to go away after his first round with this story.

Once you know who the leaker is, you can use that information to your advantage.

You don’t allow them in the room when anything important is discussed, and then you can feed them false information you want to plant in the media.

When you tire of the game, you can find a reason to get rid of them—these days a false sexual harassment charge should get it done...
