If 2020 Is the Warmest Year … So What?

Edited on 07/12/2020 10:58:29 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

While 2020 will be at or near record-warmth globally, this is not something we should be particularly alarmed about.

With COVID-19 and demonstrations taking center stage in news coverage, it is easy to forget that we are all dying from climate change, anyway

So is this based on the temperature readings they got from thermometers placed in parking lots, next to large AC cooler fans on the top of large buildings etc etc etc?

The left is trying to portray every year as the warmest on record. The polar ice should have melted by now; but water seeks its level, and sea tides are st the same level as they were when I was a kid.

Don’t even think of believing this “warmest year” stuff.
Could be true, but given our enemedia and proven lying by folks on the climate change “research” side, I’d take this with several pounds of salt until looking at actual data from reliable sources (pretty much eliminates the press and a good many research groups).

And, of course, always remember that there was much more abundant life during the times when the climate was warmer than it is now.

Does the earths axis change. Yes. Does the earths climate change, Yes.

How much impact does man have on this no one really knows. It would appear the greatest impact man has is on local conditions. Smog, noise and water pollution.

Trump has done well on handling the local pollution side. On the global side President Trump should shift the focus.

Instead of emphasizing prevention he can push the focus to be on how to best handle these natural climate changes.

In many ways the change in the earths axis can be beneficial to some.

“So is this based on the temperature readings they got from thermometers placed in parking lots, next to large AC cooler fans on the top of large buildings etc etc etc?”

If those tricks don’t work, they just “adjust” the data to get the desired results.

Also, have you ever noticed how hot the areas of the globe are that have few thermometers?

Does the earths axis change. Yes. Does the earths climate change, Yes.

Clearly, the bulk of Earth's population on the northern hemisphere (sorry, aus's/NZ) and their weight is causing the tilt and precession. The wobble from too many people on the 25% land mass is causing a wobble that will directly increase Earth's eccentricity. We are doomed to Obliquity.

I know Hank Johnson will agree with me.

Don’t even go there on ‘handling natural climate changes’.

Government can’t control weather and shouldn’t try.

As for the climate Nazis, tell them to start with China and Russia and get back to us once they’re done with the real pollution offenders.

When I can hear and feel the grass crunch under my feet I might consider this year hot. We’re not even close to that!

I spent my whole life working outside.

Sometimes it got really hot.
Sometimes it got really cold.

It was never the same.

I survived somehow.

One can expect a sizable subset of climate alarmists to appeal to “the science” when 2020 is touted as the warmest year ever recorded. But people who actually do science know that if one is using experimental data, a crucial feature is the degree of uncertainty in that data. I’ve never seen in the popular press a discussion of global temperatures that includes error bars - one of the points Spencer is suggesting is that claims that 2020 (or some previous year) is the hottest ever is likely meaningless in terms of the uncertainty inherent in that data.

And that uncertainty has to be substantial - not only obvious problems like the urban heat island effect, but also factors inherent in collecting data everywhere from Vladivostok to Zambia, with three-quarters of the needed information coming from uninhabited areas in the ocean.

So my first question whenever I have this “hottest year ever” stuff thrown in my face is ‘how much hotter than the second hottest’, followed by ‘and what’s the uncertainty in that global temperature value?’

Temperature and CO2 levels of earth's geologic past.

We are in a cooler than average period for the planet.

How much pollution has been created by all the burning by the protesters?

1500 buildings in Minnedishu alone.

Every year is the hottest year ever according to climate cultists. If this keeps up earth will be as hot as Venus unless Joe Biden fixes things.

The climate “scientists” apply corrections to increase the thermometer readings to match the computer models. I am not aware that they reduce thermometer readings to account for recent parking lot additions since the warmer temperatures help their argument, but not enough to eliminate the need to add corrections to increase measured temperatures even more. The temperature increases claimed in the last 100 years are very close to the sum of the corrections. What the climate “scientists” refuse to use are recent satellite data which measure surface temperature and atmospheric temperature over the entire world. These satellite measurements do not show the annual increases for years where satellite data is available.

So we pretty much shut down the entire global economy for a few months, fossil fuel list is far below the 2035 goal from the Kyoto accords, greenhouse gas emissions for a time there was in pre-industrial age levels - show us with the global warming/cooling/climate change awesome models how this reduced the global temperature or pack up those models and GTFO since we’ve demonstrated that all those ideas, every single last one of them, on how to solve that issue to be bunk.
