Gorsuch joins 4 LIBS to rule much of Oklahoma belongs to INDIANS.

Gorsuch writes the majority opinion, joined by 4 LIBS 5-4
Does some of it not? There were treaties after all. I don’t see how is this is a win for Liberals. Conservatives believe in the right for people to govern themselves.
Ping to OKLAHOMA court case
What good is making false promises if you can’t break them?
Especially when it’s for “the common good”
Good point. I don’t know the details of the case or the legal issues involved.
Probably the headline calls it a liberal win because all four liberals stuck together, and Gorsuch made it a 5-4 decision, while the other conservatives stuck together.
Liberals? Really? That word has no meaning anymore.
And what is your take on the U.S. upholding treaties it signed?
There are no news articles yet, explaining it. Read it first.

Just reading the opinion from Gorsuch, it seems reasonable. It’s more a case of jurisdiction than anything else. I’ll check out the dissenting opinions to see the other side of it.
Looks dumb and disruptive to me. Oklahoma is a State, not a reservation. There is hardly a shred of land here that is still indian owned.
More out of hand revisionist history and law.
The USSC have made fools of themselves. Again. They are hardly relevant any longer so far as reputation is concerned.
A liberal take on treaties: the US must by abide by treaty signed over 100 years ago, and a treaty signed by Bill Clinton guaranteeing sovereignty to the Ukraine must be ignored when it requires US military intervention under a Democratic president, or investigating corruption by Democrats.
To have declared statehood if the sovereign territory of the indian allotments still endures was wrong. If the tribal sovereignty is to exist the state should dissolve in the areas that were indian allotments and that includes much of the state.
What I really want to see happen is for the tribes to make good on the collection of the nickel a ton royalty on all the sand removed from the Arkansas River system. I might see a dime or two from that after they got through stealing most of it.
Gorsuch and his gang just ripped the lid off of Pandora’s Box so far as Oklahoma is concerned. Let’s see where Stitt goes with his gaming commission shake down now.
Only ones I can think of are the Kenton reserve and Osage county. Lots of other small areas still “Indian Land” but lots of Indians own large areas of private land or homes in cities.
Good grief. What an ignorant statement. Read the case. Did you? If you did, read it again, because that is NOT what the opinion concludes.

Link on Trump tax returns. Both are 7-2 with Thomas Alito in dissent. Sent back to lower courts.
No tax return release yet.
There is now
Good grief. Look at the vote. Nobody on “our side” should be voting with America hating leftists like The Wise Latina (TM), Kagan and Darth Bader Ginsburg. Ever. Period.
How could I? I was the first in the country to report on it.
I beat u by 25 minutes
Please get a grip. And read the case.
The case in point includes Creek jurisdiction I believe. It is no more or less “indian land” than Kenton or Osage County. I don’t believe the USSC is making any distinction at all as to “ownership” but rather the area designated as an original tribal jurisdiction.
The sovereignty of the tribes has been steadily creeping toward more and more visible blurring the lines between the tribe and local to state government. In the Cherokee Nation it appears more like a partnership with the Cherokees as the player with discretionary funds. They don’t spend much but they make a big show with what they do spend. Contributions are usually in the tens of thousands of dollars. Schools get special trinkets, law enforcement get special tools, the county gets road matching money, the RWD gets help with a new treatment plant etc. The Corps of Engineers gave one of the largest parks in the area to the tribe for management. It will be interesting to see how that turns out. Not well I suspect but I can be surprised. The tribe took over Sequoyah’s home because the state could no longer afford it. There are tribal police but we don’t see them often.
Oklahoma is poor and poorly run. The tribes could do worse I am certain.
