Subway Bans Open Carry of Firearms in Restaurants Nationwide

Helps to protect the grandchildren and to shoot an occasional stray “Meatball sub” meatball trying to escape.

Never understood “open carry”. Why would you want to?

Why unnecessarily “trigger” people? Why let any potential attackers KNOW ahead of time that you were armed?

Makes zero sense to me.

Mostly for comfort. A concealed pistol generally requires a holster that is tight against the skin, so it's either rubbing or (and) holding in sweat. Open carry allows a belt holster that moves the pistol slightly off of you, meaning you don't get monkeybutt.

"Triggering" people by simply carrying is how you help normalize and expose people to their rights. Many kids and young adults have no concept of their rights regarding firearms. That exposure helps break that barrier and put that little spark in their head that maybe leads to them fully supporting their rights, and even open carrying themselves.

Most potential attackers are looking for an easy target, not a potential fight. Think about it. You've got an airsoft pistol you painted the orange tip black. hit the gas station, ready to get the couple hundred out of the register. Guy over there filling his Slurpee has a badass looking 1911 hanging off his hip. You still gonna rob the place? Or maybe go try another store? But hmm, you know, that guy was carrying, lucky I noticed him before I actually robbed the place. Hm. Wonder if there's someone else at this other gas station carrying that I didn't see in time. Makes you think twice (or more) about your decisions to rob a place. I don't know the exact number, but studies I've seen show that mass shootings have occurred mostly in gun-free zones. Somewhere between 89% and 98.4% of them.

Cause it looks good. I have a Ruger SR1911, and she's pretty. I met a guy at the Christmas tree farm 2-3 years ago, and he had an awesome pearl-handle revolver. Pure beauty. Saw a guy carrying a Glock at Costco, so I got to make fun of him in my head.
None of which would have happened if TX hadn't finally loosened their infringements and allowed open carry a couple years ago.

But here’s what I can envision. An open-carry guy is in line at a convenience store. He’s focused on paying is bill. A nearby bum/tweeker sees the gun. Grab and run.

See my post above, #102 for a longer list response to faucetman's post. But to add on to that with your scenario. First, if you're open carrying you need to be aware of your surroundings. You should have good situational awareness anyway, but anytime you carry (open or not), you should be paying attention and be ready for something like that to happen.
Secondly, unless you're an idiot who watches too many Hollywood action movies, you don't have your gun just tucked into your pants waistband. It'll be in a holster, and even the most basic ones usually have a retention strap (with a snap) so someone who grabs and runs is gonna pull your whole hip with them, not just the pistol. And a random tweaker is not very likely to have the knowledge or hand coordination to grab your pistol and push the snap or thumb the release or however it works to actually release it. And just for shitsngiggles, a quick search for this doesn't turn up much. I see two incidents (2014 and 2017) before I got tired of scrolling down: one an actual snatch and run at Wally World, the other where one guy carrying actually held up another guy open carrying and demanded the gun.

Why would you want to?

In any number of places open carry requires no permit. If you do not want your name in a government data base then open carry is the way to go.

Why unnecessarily “trigger” people?

If my carrying "triggers" people then they needed to be triggered. Being armed is not something to be hidden and ashamed of. It is something to be regarded as normal. The more people that carry openly the more it is regarded as normal. In my little town no one is triggered because open carry happens rather often. We are a stop over for hunters and it is a common sight to see people in hunting gear with their rifle. Nobody cares. BTW the last homicide we had was so long ago the report was typed with carbon paper. And a hammer was the weapon of choice.

Because when you are openly armed potential attackers pick another target.

Hey they are a private business and can set their own rules, and gun owners that open carry don’t have to eat their overpriced crap. No point in getting upset if they want to hurt their own bottom line.

I dropped Waffle House after they posted a No Weapons sign one day. It was comic. I had already eaten and saw the sign as I was paying to leave. I apologized to the lady as I paid, telling her I wouldn’t be back. She said,”We got robbed last week, so we put it up!”. Told her a)I’ve never robbed anyone or any place and 2) did she expect robbers to obey the sign? They will be pleased if they are the only armed folks for certain. You just can’t fix this level of stupidity.

Subway may lose one or both, of their remaining customers. Especially since they lack drive through service.

I’m not against open carry, it’s just that I would never do it in public. As I’m writing this I have a concealed Judge under my shirt, about to go to a veteran’s meeting with shopping before and after.

Now let’s say I go to the VVA meeting open carry, even though the majority of these guys proudly own guns, some will scratch their heads and wonder just why I would want to carry openly.

One place on my list is Walmart. There’s no way I want to be picked out of the crowd by a rat while carrying open and made a spectacle out of. I do not want my name in the news as brandishing a gun, even though it would never leave the holster.

To pack a weapon and knowing when and how to use it tends to ensure one’s safety, that’s what concealed is all about. I’m not an attention whore, I have no desire to be looked at like I have an arm growing out of my left temple.

How about you, do you personally open carry every place you go? Do you even carry concealed?

Now your remark: “Show me an article where this actually happened to someone open carrying.” I have no such article. The lack of such an article does not justify inviting such a thing to happen.
