The Pandemic’s Big Mystery: How Deadly Is the Coronavirus? (Libs inching the towel back! )

Even with more than 500,000 dead worldwide, scientists are struggling to learn how often the virus kills. Here’s why. More than six months into the pandemic, the coronavirus has infected more than 11 million people worldwide, killing more than 525,000. But despite the increasing toll, scientists still do not have a definitive answer to one of the most fundamental questions about the virus: How deadly is it?

A firm estimate could help governments predict how many deaths would ensue if the virus spread out of control. The figure, usually called the infection fatality rate, could tell health officials what to expect as the pandemic spreads to densely populated nations like Brazil, Nigeria and India. New York City’s prevalence of 7 percent in the C.D.C. study was well below the 21 percent estimated in a state survey in April. But that number was based on people recruited at supermarkets, and so the results may have been biased toward people out shopping during a pandemic — often the young, who have been less affected.

All the Libs know for certain is that the death rates are much higher than Conservatives claim.

They have "Scientific Consensus".

I believe the 4.5% mortality rate is false.

Gianourmous Upswing in ‘Cases’ the Leftymedia shrieks ...

We have MORE TESTING going on now than ever,

OF COURSE they are going to detect MORE ‘cases’ of people having the Virus.

BUT thats not DEATHS, thats NOT Hospitalizations. Simply the increased testing has shown more people having test indicators of having the virus.

DEATH RATES ?

How many are Illegal Aliens ??

How many are Chinese Tourists ?

How many are over 75 years old.

How many are the ones in NYC where the Dem idiots PUT WUFLU patients in to infect Retirement Homes and Care Facilities ??

.

Corona virus: 11 million people worldwide have/had it, killing more than 525,000.

That's a WHOPPING 0.04772727272% of the world's population.
And, China will send out ANOTHER virus this next winter. It's THEIR fault 100% and they KNOW it.
They won't change because clean = expensive; filthy = cheap.
Since MONEY is one of the two things the Chinese (in China) believe in...nothing will change there.

The ONLY leverage the US has with China falls in the $$$$ category: clean up their act or we import A LOT fewer Chinese products.

OR

Forbid Americans going there.
Yikes. That would rattle MANY cages.

Oh please... forbid ME from going there!

I’ve been 30+ times in the past 15 years.
If I NEVER go again, that would be JUST FINE with me.

The fatality rate is around 0.1%. It was higher back in February and March. But it has come down substantially because of a better understanding of the virus. We have better procedures and we know which drugs work and at which stage of the disease. We also know who is at risk. So, all these factors have made the fatality rate in the past month very very low.

That being said, the Washington Post reported that there are studies which say the rate of fatal heart disease has gone up by more than the total virus fatalities during the same time period. This is because people with heart issues are not getting the care they need, staying away from doctors and hospitals either out of fear or bad advise. And numerous other issues have raised the death toll as well, like addiction and depression. So, now, the number of new cases is no concern. The lock down is a concern.

I don’t know if the young are less likely to get infected, but I just read an article explaining that they have remarkably low mortality rates when they do. Some sadly do succumb but the odds are very low for people 45 and under. People 45-70 fare worse outcome odds, and people over 70 are most vulnerable to death - all relatively/statistically speaking. Then of course add the other variables like underlying conditions.

Of course it is obvious and it has been pounded into our heads, the young may not be likely to get very sick from it but they can dang sure spread it to others when they do. This is especially risky among the asymptomatic youth who don’t even know they are carrying the virus so they don’t even think to take precautions in their human interactions. Despite a statewide mask wearing law, I stopped into the market last week and a group of teens were standing in the line without masks. Nobody accosted them :-)

The rate of spread in NJ just went back over 1.0 for the first time in months, which means for every 1 person who catches the virus, they are likely to infect more than just 1 other person. And we’re hearing about Arizona (Mexico just closed the border), Florida, Texas etc. NJ Governor is blaming at least part of the spike on out of state travelers.

And I’ve read some sick gambling that young kids are doing, like getting a group together to put $20 in a hat and whomever in the group catches it first wins the pot. We’ve all done foolish things in our youth but usually just to ourselves. But then again, there are people out there who just can’t wait to line up for some yet to be developed, barely tested for long term safety or efficacy “vaccine”.

The mortality rate is much much lower than that.

Stanford doctor: Coronavirus fatality rate for people under 45 ‘almost 0%’

“The death rate in a given country depends a lot on the age structure, who are the people infected, and how they are managed,” Ioannidis said. “For people younger than 45, the infection fatality rate is almost 0%. For 45 to 70, it is probably about 0.05%-0.3%. For those above 70, it escalates substantially.”

Ask Governor Cuomo. He’ll ask you, “How deadly do you want it to be?”

Heart disease, cancer, even broken bones are going untreated.

We really didn’t organize this very well. We should have set up area hospitals explicitly for known covid patients, leaving other hospitals to treat other illnesses both serious and routine. We’re hearing some hospitals are or were overwhelmed, and at the same time other hospitals are going broke because nobody wants to walk into one for fear of catching the virus there. If the hospitals were better quarantined maybe people wouldn’t put off needed treatments and exams. Heck even physical rehab places, which people need to recover from injuries, are off by 50% or more. That can lead to long term problems if you don’t do your physical therapy.

Progressive diseases like cancer are going to go up in the coming years as a result of this. It is axiomatic that the sooner you treat a disease the greater likelihood of a positive outcome. But if you can’t get cancer screening, you won’t know about the cancer, and it can be very aggressive depending on the type. This will make it much harder to treat, and harder on the patient.

We'll never know.

The disease reporting has been corrupted by politics, prejudices, personal philosophy and of course money.

Anyone who is in a position to do so and that has had the opportunity to report the stats of this pandemic has had the opportunity to report the results in any way they choose.

You can be sure that the overall reporting of CV-19 is a reflection of whatever ax the reporters were grinding at the time of the report and that the final results, when available, will support whatever proposition the individual reporter was looking for.

We really didn’t organize this very well. We should have ...

Distributed hydroxychloroquine and zinc to everyone, not shut down the economy, quarantined only the sick leaving the healthy alone, and pulled out all the stops to protect the vulnerable population.

Advised, not mandated socialist distancing and hand sanitizing. Masks are just stupid and a waste of masks.

No, that is 4.7%.

Not of the population, but of the cases.

500,000 dead/11,000,000 infected = 4.5%

Show your work for believing 4.5% is false.

The fatality rate is around 0.1%

How did you derive that number?

535,499 total deaths/(535,499 total deaths + 6,223,819 total recovered, i.e. completed cases) times 100 to give a percentage = 8.7% mortality rate

The liberals and media are shouting from the roof tops about increases in positive test results. As if testing positive to covid-19 is as bad as contracting leprosy.

These people completely shove under the rug the ratio of deaths divided by positive test numbers. This ratio is the most critical number because deaths are more important than merely getting infected. Most infections are asymptomatic and many more have mild symptoms (Me among those and I am age 80). And deaths are caused by becoming seriously sick which burdens resources of hospitals.

The web-site I posted link to, ACTUALLY shows this flattening of death curve! So I will wear a hat of a scientist looking for facts instead of republican or democrat.
