The economy shut down for a while, coins were not moving through the system but were instead stuck in shut down cash registers. The mint was also partially shut down due to Covid. That’s why.
Also - save any silver coins you get from 1964 and earlier. Those are the ones that have actual silver in them. Maybe. ;)
I am slowly going through my Grandpa’s Coin Collection to see if any of it is worth anything. I am pretty much saving the silver because it’s worth more than the collecting of it!
I asked an expert about the hundreds of Wheat Pennies he saved. Each one is worth 4-cents, and the oldest ones from 1917 are now worth 40-cents each. Whoop-dee-do! I gots me a $2.00 windfall!
But Grandpa DID have a lot of fun finding Wheat Pennies; he got us girls in on it too, so we were always on the lookout for them. When we gave him one, you’d think we were offering the Hope Diamond, LOL! Miss you, Grandpa! :)
During this covid stuff many retailers are refusing cash because if germs. Isn’t that weird germs don’t exist in credit cards.
“Be the CHANGE you want to see in the World!”
Somebody once asked
Could I spare some change for gas?
“I need to get myself away from this place”
I said, “Yep, what a concept
I could use a little fuel myself
And we could all use a little change”
Bingo! That was my first thought.
Oh, the checkbook lady! She has to write the check, THEN, she has to go to the check register and record it. Then her pen doesn’t write...
1. Banks in many states have curtailed or severely limited their direct transactions with customers, so people are only going to the bank for critical transactions. Exchanging cash isn't very critical for most customers.
2. Many grocery stores have shut down their coin exchange machines where customers can exchange piles of coins for a small fee.
I will also note, another indication of a destroyed economy ( a CIA op who I worked with told me)....” Watch a countries postal system, before collapse they get corrupt and broke, then they ALWAYS privatize it- always 100 percent indication- it is one of our indicators”.
History proves this, Russia, numerous SA and Central American countries, etc....Not saying the US Post office is heading that way, but much talk lately of privatizing it.....strange our .gov does not even listen to our CIA world observations. Take away, if our postal system gets privatized, extreme economic hardship always follows.
Avoid Credit Card and Identity Theft, Abstinence works every time it is tried!! I f you don’t make any electronic transactions, you won’t get Pregnant!!!
3. One or more of the U.S. mints has shut down their operations several times due to COVID-19 outbreaks among the employees.
Especially bad for those on fixed incomes.
*************
Absolutely bad. Its an insidious thing that quietly erodes purchasing power.
Those living on fixed incomes have no way to keep up with the rising prices, especially after the effects of taxes.
The only way to keep pace with inflation is to take on greater risk, something that many people cannot do. I hope the Fed can keep inflation under control but not optimistic that they will given the overriding need to prop up a severely weakened economy.
Watch them use this "crisis" to ban cash transactions entirely.
Go here for ALL US coinage value, current metal value.

. A pre-82 copper Penny is worth almost 2 cents.A pre-64 dime has $1.30 in silver....over the past few years I have “ found” about five hundred extra bucks in circulating coinage.
This is just the leftists and the banksters pushing their war on cash.
The UP of Michigan has enough Copper and Iron to make coins for the rest of eternity. Nickle also.
They did make coins out of steel on time, so what the hell?
The powers that be want a cashless society and force us to use debit and credit cards.
This is a test to see how they can get people to comply.
Amen. Ditto going paperless. Both leave you vulnerable to having your assets wiped away with a few keyboard entries by a deep state functionary. What do you do then? Hire a lawyer? As it is now, your cell and your iPad track your whereabouts 24/7. Digital only currency eliminates privacy completely.
Ive been culling copper pennies out of circulation for a while. Canada did away with theirs. They run about 17% of pennies in circulation. I half expect the mint to recall them if things get really tough. I find the occasional silver nickel or quarter. Actually found an Indian head penny this year. Its nice to pay for $10 worth of groceries with a $20 bill and ask for all of the half dollar coins as change(and there were a lot of them when things got tight) and get a $15 coin in change. I got so I could see the edges when theyd count them out, and Id get the adrenaline rush when I saw silver or gray. One time a 20 something year old cashier did a double-take on a Franklin half and said Thats a funny color.
Check people annoy me too.
It’s not the check itself, but the idiocy of the writer.
They stood in line for 3 or 4 people to go through checkout. It’s not like they don’t know what the name of the store is or the date. Fill that in ahead of time while you’re waiting - ditto on the register. The only piece of info you don’t have until after checkout is the amount - everything else could have been filled out before.
