South Dakota Governor: No Social Distancing at Mt. Rushmore Event [ Kristi Noem ]
The New American Magazine ^ | 30 June 2020 | Luis Miguel

Posted on 07/01/2020 7:21:59 AM PDT by george76

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem confirmed that her state will move forward with plans for a large Independence Day celebration at Mount Rushmore on July 3 .. free masks will be given out to those who desire to wear them, there will be no social distancing.

Thousands are expected at the festivities that will be attended by none other than President Donald Trump. The event will feature fighter jets soaring over the 79-year-old monument, along with the first fireworks display at the site since 2009.

Noem, a Republican, made clear that they would not impose coronavirus restrictions on the crowd.

...

According to Noem, state officials have told South Dakotans to “focus on personal responsibility,” adding, “Every one of them has the opportunity to make a decision that they’re comfortable with.”

The governor’s remarks appear to diverge from the National Park Service, which says “We ask the public to be our partner in adopting social distancing practices when visiting parks.”

...

Noem has been the subject of immense scrutiny from the Left and mainstream media due to her refusal .. to order business closures or stay-at-home mandates, unlike most other governors around the country.

...

the media wants the public to worry about climbing COVID-19 cases, even though the virus is not deadly for most who catch it and the original purpose of the lockdowns was to “flatten the curve,” not eliminate it completely. States such as Texas and Florida have already buckled under the pressure

...

mass Black Lives Matter riots are conveniently exempted from the Left’s list of things that must be shut down to combat coronavirus.

Governor Noem doesn’t appear likely to give in on either count. In response to the idea of getting rid of Mount Rushmore, she succinctly stated: “Not on my watch.”

Coronavirus deaths declined by ~ 90% in the US from the high set on April 21st. That’s an incredibly positive story about our national battle with the virus. Yet, shockingly, it has received almost no media attention.

I wish I could be there at that Rushmore ceremony.
I get the distinct impression that Mount Rushmore’s days (as we now know it to exist) are numbered.

Kristi will be President after Trump.

The R’s have Tom Cotton, Josh Hawley, Matt Gaetz and other young people who have grown up in an evnvironment hostile to them. They are strong.

But Kristi will transcend them all. The dishrag party that put Steve King on the sidelines in favor of Ichabod Feenstra will be washed away by a strong woman from the North, implacable in her convictions, stoic in her efforts, and clear on her goals.

The country wants a symbol to be President?

We have the right one. After Trumpus Magnus Rex clears the path for her.

We don’t know. The story was dropped by the mainstream media. Probably the vast majority recovered and returned to work. The lack of media follow up on this, likely means that there is nothing to use against Trump on this, so they dropped the story.

I don’t know why they keep specifically announcing “no social distancing”. They are not going to FORCE people to be close together. People WILL social distance and wear masks.

They are just saying that there will be no limits on the crowd size.

Just think of all the work it took to make that display.
All the measuring, drilling, filling and climbing for a spectacular piece of art. I think the original sculptor was succeeded by two later generations of artists in the same family.
Obviously, this was not a family with any fear of heights.
Can’t recall if this was done on commission, or just for the fame of it all. Every real artist wishes to leave their mark on this material world for as long as possible.

There is a reddit subgroup for Virginia COVID, and yesterday they were going crazy, screaming that our numbers were turning horribly bad, and urging the governor to cancel phase 3.

Meanwhile, in the real world, our numbers continue to drop. Our hospitalizations are down over 50%, our 7-day average of deaths has dropped from a high of 37 to about 20 (you have to ignore the last few days of numbers as reports often take a few days to arrive).

Our state does something extremely useful — we track everything by the “date of occurence”. So while you CAN graph how many tests, hospitalizations, and deaths were added to the report “today”, they take all the test results, hospitalizations, positive cases, and deaths, and put them in the graph at the date of “expected infection”, “test performance”, “date of hospitalization”, and “date of death”.

So we might have 600 “new positive results”, but 20 of them are from 2 weeks ago, and only 300 of them are from today.

Our governor announced last night he is keeping “standing room” stuff closed, including bars — because of other states supposedly tracking infections to those situations. I can see that as a possibility, people standing close together, drinking and therefore not having masks, talking loudly at one another, if you had one positive case, you would likely spread it to multiple other people.

Unfortunately, he also does stupid things, like he restricted the huge theme parks to 1000 people max, the same number as every other venue, like small outdoor concert areas.

Kings Dominion has 400 acres of land, and 7 major themed areas. If you just put 1000 people into ONE area, the child’s ride area, each person would have over 871 square feet of space. And since this is outdoors, we know there is little chance of spread.

I love the symbolism of the president at Mt. Rushmore. With all the destruction of statues and monuments going on, it sends a power symbol to see Trump celebrating at Mt. Rushmore.

Good. Trump is headed there on Friday.
Maybe she can talk some sense into him about this COVID
nonsense while he’s there.

I can imagine somebody like S0r0s buying an aircraft fire retardant kit, filling it with red paint, and defacing Mt. Rushmore.

Nothing is off limits to these traitors.
