Suspicions of Russian Bounties Were Bolstered by Data on Financial Transfers

Analysts have used other evidence to conclude that the transfers were most likely part of an effort to offer payments to Taliban-linked militants to kill American and coalition troops in Afghanistan.

American officials intercepted electronic data showing large financial transfers from a bank account controlled by Russia’s military intelligence agency to a Taliban-linked account, evidence that supported their conclusion that Russia covertly offered bounties for killing U.S. and coalition troops in Afghanistan, according to three officials familiar with the intelligence.

Though the United States has accused Russia of providing general support to the Taliban before, analysts concluded from other intelligence that the transfers were most likely part of a bounty program that detainees described during interrogations.

Investigators also identified by name numerous Afghans in a network linked to the suspected Russian operation, the officials said — including, two of them added, a man believed to have served as an intermediary for distributing some of the funds and who is now thought to be in Russia.

The intercepts bolstered the findings gleaned from the interrogations, helping reduce an earlier disagreement among intelligence analysts and agencies over the reliability of the detainees. The disclosures further undercut White House officials’ claim that the intelligence was too uncertain to brief President Trump. In fact, the information was provided to him in his daily written brief in late February, two officials have said.

Afghan officials this week described a sequence of events that dovetailed with the account of the intelligence. They said that several businessmen who transfer money through the informal “hawala” system were arrested in Afghanistan over the past six months and were suspected of being part of a ring of middlemen who operated between the Russian intelligence agency, known as the G.R.U., and Taliban-linked militants...

More NYT’s bullshit. I hope the REAL (you know, the patriotic ones, not the coup plotters) American intelligence personnel are running the serial numbers on the currency they found against the serial numbers of the transport plane load of American currency that Obama/BIDEN/Kerry gave to the Iranians.

They try to win fake political points for Dems by intimating Trump is a Russian puppet, or is unpatriotic, or some other negative wish list item.

You are exactly right, they DEFENDED the Kerry/Obama cash on the tarmac for the Iranians saying it was old frozen assets.

It’s literally clinical. 5 morons to write such garbage.

As soon as you see Eric Schmitt listed as an author, you know it's intelligence community propaganda. Case in point: David Sanger, Eric Schmitt: Afghanistan Exit Threatens CIA Drone Mission (2014)

This is all a PLOT by the DEEP STATE because they greatly fear Trump’s success at forging close relations with Russia. But Russia is a NATURAL ALLY for our CHRISTIAN REPUBLIC.

The Deep State fears an alliance between the world’s two leading Christian powers. They prefer we emulate the weak, socialist West Europe “allies” — countries where the atheistic populations turn themselves over global Islam without a fight. The “powers that be” can work with that.

The decadent, decaying European democracies are lost. Trump sees that. He also sees the enormous potential in an alliance with the pious, free market-loving new Russia. That’s just one of many reasons why the DEEP STATE fears the wisdom of Trump.

Well, goodness gracious! Why didn’t you say so in the first place? Had I known you had such definitive and well supported evidence, I wouldn’t have deemed your story to be the same convoluted Russian-hysteria bull crap you always squirt out. My bad.

So, what they’re telling us is that after all these years, the Taliban are tired of fighting and they have to have a monetary incentive to kill Americans now. And all this time I thought killing an American was its own reward.

I suspect that there were bounties, but it was Iran offering them, and this is a diversion attempt.

Of course the Russians supports the Taliban. But the direct bounty seems unlikely to me unless it was low level action.
Russia is and always will be our enemy.
