Two people were killed early Monday morning after their fishing vessel struck a jetty in the Siuslaw River Bar and sank near Florence, Oregon.

“With a heavy heart I am saddened to to inform the many award winning crab chowder followers of the passing of Kyle and Amber Novelli. Sharing their love of crabbing was always their dream. Their personalities will forever leave a lasting impression on anyone who met them,” the restaurant wrote in a Facebook post.
Another example of white privilege. A couple risking it all to run a restaurant and go out to sea to supply it with freshly caught supplies. The heck with the whiny marchers and their pathetic claims of abuse. Go out and earn a living and maybe I'll listen to you. I give respect to those who give it all.

We were going to dine there once but the line was so long we went elsewhere.
Nobody eats there any more, it’s too crowded.
Fishing is the highest industry for death rate..prayers up.
So sad. I know.

I wonder if they lost the engine. Hitting the jetty...sounds like they might have.

No disrespect intended, but would PFDs have saved them? Realize you can’t wear one 24/7, but I don’t take my kayak out without having one on.
In Coos Bay.....surviving these events is often a matter of luck. There have been 2 such events recently. In both cases, it came down to the right people being in the proximity of the wreck.
The Jettys on the OR coast are nasty and you better know what you are doing. 10 foot breakers at night???? What are you thinking?
50 degree water, and waves breaking on the jetty. It’s an environment extremely hostile to human life.

Boat flips though, you may be trapped and a PFD may make extrication more difficult.
Hitting a jetty and sinking should not have been a lethal accident, but who knows what happened. Seen videos of those NW sand bars and the crazy waves.

When the swell was creating breaking waves at the mouth of our harbor, i would not go out in a 23 foot boat. Did not want to deal with following breaking waves coming back in.
I can’t imagine the terror of drowning in the ocean. God have mercy on them.
