The GOP’s Gen Z Problem and Path Forward - (Niskanen Center)
Niskanen Center ^ | June 30 2020 | BY MILEAH KROMER, MELISSA DECKMAN

Joe Biden was hardly the darling of the youth vote during the Democratic primaries. From the Iowa caucuses through the March 17 primaries, he won just 22 percent of the votes among those younger than 45 years old and far less among those aged 18-24. But despite his low levels of initial support and ongoing reports of a lack of enthusiasm for his candidacy, polls now show the former vice president boasting a 20+ point lead over Pres. Donald Trump among young voters. It’s little wonder why. Millennials (born 1981 to 1996) and Generation Z (born after 1996) identify or lean heavily toward the Democratic Party and solidly reject the presidency of Donald Trump, the politics of Trumpism, and the direction the county is headed.

Zoomers (a nickname for members of Gen Z) and Millennials now make up 10% and almost 30% of eligible voters in the American electorate, respectively, which potentially could make them kingmakers in the 2020 elections. Younger voters historically have a habit of not showing up to the polls. But youth-led activism in response to the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and resistance to Trump spurred a 16-point bump in turnout among this cohort between the 2014 and 2018 midterms, which suggests turnout may be higher this November as well. And the nationwide upheaval of protest sparked by the murder of George Floyd, which has been led by young activists (and particularly young African Americans), may also drive new voters to the polls.

A youth-led wave election may not only deny the president a second term, but also allow Democrats to regain majority control of the Senate.

End LEGAL immigration ( H, L and J work visas too ) and let the young ones have a chance at decent jobs and wages. Then watch them all become Republicans.

If Biden wins we’ll all be Generation “T” for “terminal.”

“In early 2016, the Niskanen Center published a post on the “libertarian case” for socialist Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. As Wilkinson wrote, “The libertarian case for Bernie Sanders is simply that Bernie Sanders wants to make America more like Denmark, Canada, or Sweden ... and the citizens of those countries enjoy more liberty than Americans do. No other candidate specifically aims to make the United States more closely resemble a freer country.”

I think it’s pretty common for new/younger voters to start somewhere left of center and as the grow and evolve over time drift right of center. I don’t think this is anything new.

My 20 year old nephew works full time for the Republican party in his state...a red state.

He said 15% of kids his age today are conservative.

Our country will cease as we know it in another 10 years

Your post reminds me of something Winston Churchill once said. I am paraphrasing here; but, I think it goes something like this: “If you are not a liberal at 20 then you have no heart and if you are still a liberal at 40 then you have no mind.”

Not the same. Kids we knew who turned liberal in college then later conservative grew up in a conservative culture with most likely conservative parents. Today they are indoctrinated from Pre k. and their parents are liberal.

Any candidate relying on Gen Z for the win, is a loser, lost the election and will not win

Gen Z and the younger millennials are idiots, all young people are, even 30 years ago and they don’t vote in numbers like people who are older who take voting seriously.

Most are not even registered

Few ever show up to the polls

If this is Joe Biden’s path to victory, he already lost before it even started.

Trump will appeal to conservatives, moderates and left/right of center, people who believe in law and order, good governess and want to preserve what America believes in and don’t want us to become another communist state.

Are people dumb to believe the radicals are going to just “stop” when Biden wins? They won’t they will continue and they all know Biden is just a sock puppet anyways.

Gen Z are idiots, just like the Millenials, just like the Gen Xers, just like the boomers

They just need to grow up

now get off my lawn

Let ‘em start paying taxes...if that’s how they feel when they lose 60 percent of their salary so be it then we’re lost.

Didn’t the head of the Niskanen Center just talk about going up and bashing that St Louis’ lawyer’s brains in?

William Niskanen was a libertarian economist who was in the Reagan Administration. And for years he was the chairman of the Cato Institute.

Niskanen is now gone but this libertarian foundation is his creation.

The Koch brothers are/were libertarians who support Biden.

The libertarians at Cato Institute routinely bash Trump.

I think I see a pattern...

Nicolas Fuentes is doing his best to get Gen-Z on the Trump Train, but he is being confounded by YouTube, etc.

The libertardians are our greatest enemies if they remain shills to big biz and oppose our attempts to go after Google/Facebook/Twitter.

Yes being for gay marriages new. Wanting 7 year olds to be able to decide their sexuality is new. ripping down Confederate statues is new. Ripping down Columbus statues is new. Taking over multiple precincts is new

Maybe last generation you would have been right. Not this time

After Trump wins reelection this will be our problem. That is why it is imperative to destroy the Democrat party now. That is done by totally dismantling them this November. It is a tall order but very doable if we can get the right message out.

Except this group isn’t doing that. Even as they get jobs, buy houses, and have children they are sticking to their liberal views, especially the college educated, suburban, white women. They are thoroughly indoctrinated. The demographics do not favor the continuation of the American experiment. If not this year, by 2024, the Left will control everything and at that point it’s over.

The GOP is devoting all of its energy to destroying Trump.
