As would many of the people outside, the homeowners were scared to death, nobody should be put in this position with non-responsive police ignoring 911 calls. The lack of immediate response infuriates me - a good campaign theme to get soccer moms on board with law and order.

“The lack of immediate response infuriates me“

Where in the United States can you expect immediate (lifesaving) police response?

Nowhere that I know.

“...non-responsive police ignoring 911 calls”

I find this surprising. St. Louis, for all of its flaws, politically, knows the value of money. Downtown, where Bush Stadium, the Enterprise Arena, where the Blues play, and the Jones Dome where the Rams played are all within easy walking/biking distance some pretty bad neighborhoods. On game days and nights the police presence is overwhelming. I would think that a call from a gated community filled with very rich people would get instant response from the police.
