It’s a little late for Jews to get even with St. Louis
Arutz Sheva ^ | 30/6/20 | Jonathan S. Tobin

Who says Jews and Muslims can’t work together? In St. Louis, an Israeli-American restaurant owner and a pair of Muslim activists have joined forces in order to exact retroactive justice against a historical figure that hated both groups.

Their target is King Louis IX of France (1214-1270) who was canonized by the Catholic Church as St. Louis, after whom a great American city was named. But as the St. Louis Jewish Light reports, Ben Poremba (the Israeli), and Umar Lee and Moji Sidiqui (his two Muslim colleagues) have launched an effort to not only remove a famous statue of the king/saint that has stood in front of the city’s art museum since the St. Louis World’s Fair of 1904, but also want to rename the city.

Is Louis Farrakhan going to change his name?

But seriesly, folks. Louis IX got sainted for being a gracious loser. He attempted to invade Egypt via the Nile Delta, just as Richard had attempted before him, with similar disastrous results. As soon as his army was totally committed to the Nile rout, the Saracens opened up the sleuths and they were soon slogging their way upstream neck deep in water. Unlike Richard, Louis didn't get away. His troops surrounded, he had no choice but to surrender his vast host. During his captivity, he contracted dysentery, and when he and his were at last ransomed had to march to the coast with a hole cut in his trousers to let the golden flow vent, totally humiliated. But unlike other vanquished persons, such as Hillary, he shouldered all the blame himself, and had not a harsh word to say about any of his lieutenants or his captor, Salladin. He never returned to the Middle East, and in large part for his graciousness in defeat and his gentle, forgiving nature, he was later canonized.

History ignores the fact that he was fighting Muslims in a former Christian land (Egypt); the Muslims were the invaders, not the Christians. Ask any Copts; they are the descendants of the Pharaohs, while the 90% of today’s Egyptian population trace their descent to the Arabian peninsula - not Egypt.

No more names. Just numbers. Except no one can use 72. Cause that number is tied to Virgins. If you can still mention being, “ tied to”

First we'll rename Tel Aviv and Mecca “Christ's Chapel” and then we'll rename St Louis.

Don't know much about medieval history but I have read that the Crusades were simply a response to moslem invasions...not the other way around.

To avoid offending anyone, all cities and towns should change their name to a generated GUID identifier or ‘Globally Unique Identifier’.

For example, the problematic St. Louis can become b4cb79d7-2152-44b8-86d9-4ad1b969e330.

Los Angeles (can’t have the city of angels, ‘cmon man) can be 1d9fdc78-7c8e-45f6-acdc-47681a6da9f6.

Phoenix (cultural appropriation much?) can be a2f9266e-a20a-48e4-9f58-a6cdf3179993.

Admittedly, these are unpronounceable and impossible to remember the spelling, but isn’t it worth it to not offend anyone?

There is no logical stopping point for this insanity. Every person in history has a skeleton which, when examined by the fools that run the 21st century, will necessitate tearing down ....... something.

If it runs its course, it'll be like the French Revolutionaries who realized they were going to consume themselves with their hate. There simply won't be anything left.

Or we could look to offend everyone. Change New York City to Hymietown, Dallas to Triggerhappy Rednecks, New Orleans to Chocolate City, and Charleston to Blueblood Rednecks. And those are just the easy ones. Los Angeles to Bloods! Crips! Hollyweirdos! Haaaalp! Rather long-winded, but descriptive. Chicago can be DUCK! Buffalo can be ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Pope Pius’ description of the invasion is entirely inaccurate, though. Jerusalem under the Muslims was a sleepy backwater, until the Crusaders showed up. Sure, there was dhimma, occasional lynch mobs, some rapes here and there. But that’s life under Islam.

..................

A couple clips from the article, which firmly opposed the idea.

Like all the other efforts to purge our public squares of symbols and history that we are suddenly officially disavowing, this particular effort isn’t really about what we think about the lack of religious freedom in 13th-century France. Nor is it a referendum on the various bad things said and done by just about every figure in American history up until the woke present.

Whatever harm Louis IX did in his time has nothing to do with anyone’s suffering today. His statue doesn’t hurt Jews who walk past it on their way into the museum. Nor will renaming St. Louis—or any place named after Columbus, Washington or some other target of the BLM movement—make it a better place.

Justice for George Floyd has nothing to do with St. Louis unless what you’re really interested in is a fundamental challenge to all of Western culture, warts and all. The search for enemies to cancel is about the impulse to destroy rather than to heal or uplift. Overthrowing these statues, even the ones that are associated with unsavory characters, is part of a “reimagining” of America not into a less racist country, but into one in which the past is thrown down the Orwellian memory hole. Anyone who thinks Jews will benefit from such an atmosphere knows nothing of Jewish history.

I can’t seem to include a picture, but St. Louis also built La Sainte-Chapelle in Paris to house relics of the Holy Cross, etc. It is a stunning Gothic chapel with 75% of the walls in stained glass. It is a 10 minute walk from the more famous Notre Dame and well worth the time. (Fewer tourists there too.)

Exactly; Crusaders never attacked Mecca or Medina - they were trying to take back former Christian lands.
