The problem we wrestle with isn’t, I think, a Free Speech problem. I think it’s a Big Business problem, and as a pro-free market Conservative, I have concerns about government regulation of business being a “solution”. Frankly, I think it is. But I’m nervous about it. Because that stuff doesn’t always go well.

We’ve got nothing to lose. If the Age of Trump has shown us anything it is that “Big business” is not on our side. So deregulate Big Tech and let the trial lawyers get after them.

Yes. Switching to a broader topic, I think a new political philosophy is being born.

I used to call myself a Republican — but the GOP left me, and I stopped.
Then I called myself a Conservative — but Bill Kristol and George Will are Conservatives, so maybe I’m not.
I used to call myself a Capitalist, but that’s really a pejorative term created by Communists — so I started calling myself pro-free market.

But, honestly, there is a lot with the free market and the business world that does not please me. It pains me to “oppose” business in any way but the 21st century tells me that Big Business is not on my side.

I really want limited government and I want personal freedom and personal responsibility. And I want a political solution that protect those things from interference by enemies foreign or domestic as well as public or private. I don’t want to lose my job because I said something in a public park. Or on Twitter. If I can’t say stupid stuff, then I am not free.

But, strictly speaking, I don't think corporations are literally capable of violating your Right to Free Speech. I think only the government can do that.

Again, I'm sorry. I just disagree. The Constitution guarantees the right to say what you want.

Yes, the 1A is mostly about political speech, but isn't that heart of today's "free speech" problem? The left turns everything political.

Sure a business should be able to fire you if something you said can be proved to be detrimental to the business. But to be able to fire you because you said something political?

NO!

Most forum boards I visit have a policy of 'no religion or politics'. They're there for music, equipment. arts, etc. If FB and Twitter want to go that route, OK. No politics AT ALL! If they allow anti-conservative things, they MUST allow anti-liberal things.

I believe it is time to push back against the Left HARD. I think Trump is setting things up just for that, with the reforming of the Judiciary. He needs to act quickly, though, as the Left is waking up to his moves.

WE need to keep the Senate, take back Congress, and elect more conservative Governors. And kick DeVos in the rear. Education needs fixing.

/Rant Off - I guess...

Agree 100%. We are now 30 years into the post Cold War period. It’s long past time to realign politically.

The open borders and unfair trade supporting GOP abandoned Main Street USA long ago. We can either continue supporting a party that literally hates us or support another that stands for what we believe.

“If it comes down them terrorizing us so that we shut up and also us terrorizing them so that they shut up or stop terrorizing us, then that’s messy as hell.”

The left has already accepted and is actually rejoicing that it’s a messy situation - they’ve gone to great lengths to create it. So for them if it gets messier so much the better. Our side, on the other hand, has been very loathe so far to get seriously engaged with the mess for a variety of reasons.

Conservatives by our very nature don’t like to rock the boat. Also all in all most of us are not yet personally impacted by the mess, and we’re still reasonably comfortable and safe, so we don’t fully appreciate the threat. Also most conservative are older and don’t have the energy of the leftist youths, and we’re still under the delusion that voting every couple of years is all we need to do.

What will cause us to get more physically engaged? About the only thing I can think of is the left making each of our personal life much more miserable, and by then it may be too late.

Do you get the sense I’m not too optimistic at the moment?

How exactly does you’re being wrong translate in your head to I “don’t get it”?

The Constitution limits what Government can do.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR LIMITING WHAT CORPORATIONS CAN DO.

“Virtue signaling”, what a laugh. Why would I give one damn what some random git on an internet forum thinks of my “virtue”?

Whining for the “law” to step in and resolve every petty grievance you have in interacting with your fellow citizens is a tried-and-true, sure-fire road to tyranny, with no exits.

Yep...all those record sales of guns and ammo will amount to nothing.
