RISING STAR -Who is Madison Cawthorn and why is he in a wheelchair? (Mark Meadow's Cong. District)
The U.S. SUN ^ | July 24, 2020 | David Boroff

YOUNG congressional candidate Madison Cawthorn scored a stunning victory over a Trump-backed candidate in the North Carolina primary on Tuesday.

He will take on Democrat Moe Davis in the general election in November.

Here is more on the 24-year-old Cawthorn, who nearly died in a car crash six years ago and uses a wheelchair.

Who is Madison Cawthorn?

Cawthorn has come out of nowhere with a Libertarian-style focus on freedom after joining the Republican race at the last minute.

He is competing for the seat belonging to Representative Mark Meadows, who is not seeking another term after becoming President Trump's chief of staff.

Cawthorn has wowed voters after Meadows announced the day before filing ended in December that he would not run again.

“Madison connects with people. He listens to them and people like him. It’s not magic," said Merry Guy, chairwoman of the Republican Party in Henderson County.

“When you talk about life experience, he’s gone through a lot of things none of us hopefully ever have to go through.”

Cawthorn, an eighth-generation North Carolina resident of the 11th congressional district, was homeschooled before being nominated to the US Naval Academy in 2014 - by Meadows.

"He enjoys hunting, cooking, travel, fitness, photography & videography, and studying history," his bio reads.

Cawthorn trounced Lynda Bennett by a nearly 2-to-1 margin in the primary on Tuesday.

He does not even reach the constitutionally-mandated minimum age of 25 to serve in the House until August 1, and he would become one of its youngest members in US history if he wins the general election three months later.

New York Dem lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is 30, is the youngest current member of Congress.

“I represent an emerging generation of Americans who are tomorrow’s leaders, most of whom think the Republicans don’t care about the disenfranchised, the hurting and those less fortunate," Cawthorn said in a campaign video.

"But nothing can be farther from the truth."

Bennett and Cawthorn have similar conservative platforms and both are strong Trump supporters, but it was Bennett who got the president's endorsement.

“The campaign is excited to see a strong candidate and rising star have such a strong result last night,” said Trump spokesman Tim Murtaugh.

"We are excited to stand side by side with him to fight for the future of our country.”

How long has he been engaged to his fiancee Cristina Bayardelle? The couple became engaged in December after Cawthorn proposed.

This is Mark Meadow's Congressional District. This was a complete political upset as Meadows and the President backed Lynda Bennett.

...a complete political upset...

POTUS does not have a great record in his personnel picks. We need these young people, going forward.

I will keep an eye on Madison Cawthorn.

He was interviewed on F&F this morning. He did mention he was injured in a car accident several years ago, but as an aside to another question - I didn’t know he was in a wheelchair until this article. He did say he has talked with President and he has been invited to the White House.

He also once called the Clintons “very good people”. I know that he tends to butter up everyone, but his judgment on appointments has been disastrous.
Nikki Haley? She did everything but knight the loathsome racist Bubba Wallace, before his “noose” was exposed as a fake.

I think that this was one where he defers to Meadows and the NC GOP Party. The frequent gut instinct in todays WOKE Media environment is to go to a female candidate, as there seems to be a lower chance of background problem(s). HOWEVER, Mr Cawthorn gives every indication of being a superb candidate and I'm sending him a contribution for his campaign.

I saw the interview this AM. Very impressive young guy. It was really interesting (weird?) that all these ‘powerhouse’ conservatives endorsed his opponent and she got slaughtered. Madison was endorsed by Trump,Cruz, Meadows, Jim Jordan and a number of others.

I donno... I think it’s less of an upset for the president and more an entire rejection of Lynda Bennett’s running of effectively a national campaign instead of campaigning for local votes. The extremely impressive endorsement list by Madison Cawthorn is a who’s who of local politics, vs Lynda’s strange endorsement by Ted Cruz?

Most of Trump’s disasters are actually GOP disasters. He picked experienced insiders - only to find out they are the same kind of narcissistic sociopaths who make up the insiders in the other party. But as a new President with weak party support, he would have had on open war on his hands if he brought in a whole team of DC outsiders from business and state governments. This way, he only had a secret war to deal with...

In this 2015 article Madison said “I absolutely will run for Congress.”

True, but he had plenty of time to listen to loyalists before he picked the swine Chris Wray.

This kid lives near me. Bennett could have been beaten by a wet frog had it campaigned like Cawthorne did. She was out politicked by a kid who had more energy and determination. His signs and banners were everywhere and he busted her chops with instant radio rebuttals to her attack ads.

The last ad that ran in the final days last week had audio of her dumping on Trump “No Trump! Never, never, never”, which I assume was a quote from 2016.

Trump didn’t lose anything by this kid winning.

We LOVE this young man here. He and President Trump will have a great relationship. Madison is a motivational speaker and would be just the right person to speak at Trump’s rallies. And he’s such a pleasure to look at for us gals.

"Merry Guy, chairwoman of the Republican Party in Henderson County..."

Romantically linked to Ben Dover.

His fiancee is the one standing behind him in the first picture . . . she’s a Cross-fit competitor. And a local down here in Florida.

No. He will be a big plus.

I never could warm up to Lynda Bennett even though I love Meadows and he endorsed her. She got out-hustled and he is fully in the President's corner. Apparently a lot of others saw that as well, by 2-1.
