RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Gov. Roy Cooper said the state’s Phase Two of reopening will be extended another three weeks – until July 17 – and a mask requirement will be in place Friday.

“Our numbers will keep us from moving ahead,” Cooper said.

Wednesday, North Carolina reported 1,721 new cases reported and 906 people in the hospital in relation with COVID-19 – marking the second-highest day in both of those categories since the pandemic started.

Since May 19, the number of people hospitalized has increased 56 percent, from being in the 500s to now over 900 in just a little over a month.

Phase Two was slated to end Friday. The mask requirement goes into effect at 5 p.m. Friday.

“I know this virus has been very difficult for business owners who are anxious to open their doors. We want them to open safely,” Cooper said.

Cooper spreading his dictatorial wings... seeing how much blow back he'll get. IMHO he's gonna push this all the way up to November and dictate it to be "unsafe" to vote at the polls and require mail-in ballots.

New Jersey has vote-by-mail ballot DROP BOXES on the street corners with, get this, SECURITY CAMERAS.

Should we be appalled that Epstein’s cell wasn’t also an election ballot drop box site?

That has clearly been the plan for some time. Remember “15 days to flatten the curve”? Somehow, that has morphed into “For as long as it takes for us to get Trump out of office.”

Anyone with more than 2 functioning brain cells knew this was all horse s**t months ago, and anyone who thought the politicians were going to give up the control handed to them is hopelessly naive. Which is why none of this unprecedented lockdown and socialist distancing and face mask crap should ever have been accepted in the first place.

This is all about keeping Trump from holding a rally there.

Trump needs to force the issue.

Yup. When they came to him with the scary hockey stick graphs Trump's next question should have been "what's our exit strategy?"

He doesn't have one. But he needs to get one. NOW.

Tests have become so fast and cheap, that all hospitals, everywhere, are testing every single patient that walks through the door. Car wreck, with broken bones and ruptured spleen? Into the ICU. Test shows antibodies from previous asymptomatic infection? Bingo! “Covid related” ICU case. Look! The numbers are rising! Keep it shut down!!!

They need to be publically called out for this BS. Goalposts keep moving. And the useful idiot control freaks and scaredy cats who want everyone to wear masks say, “bravo!”

I saw my doctor last week for a non-Covid issue. I asked him if there is any merit to taking the antibody test. His point of view was the current anti-body test still has too many false positive and false negative readings to be of any value. He concluded his commentary by saying, “If I gave you the test, I don’t know what I would do with the results whether you tested positive or negative.”

Meanwhile every positive recorded on these tests is being presented in the media and by heath professionals (Faucci, state health directors) as indisputable fact, and decisions are being made to keep businesses shut down based on the data.

Screw Cooper, I am not wearing a mask. This is BS it worked in Raleigh so he is going to try this on the entire state. We need tourists or the coastal economy will collapse. This dickhead is destroying the States economy with no idea how he will rebuild. His only plan is to get Trump out so Biden gives the State money. But even then that will only pay for the State government. With many business owners out of business he will destroy huge sections of the State.

We have GOP House and Senate, they need to defund his efforts at mail in ballots. Extend early voting, and keep social distancing in all polling places. No money for mail in BS.

Meanwhile in the real world, the clinic I work in is getting bombarded with people wanting Covid testing and we are seeing lots of positives here in Wilmington.
And hospitalizations for Covid are at a record high in the state..

Trump has an option, he can hold the Rally on Federal land and Cooper cannot do a thing about it. Large outdoor stadiums at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune. Lejeune opens up once a year and lets civilians in for the Fourth of July. The event is great but so big I stopped going when I no longer had an office on the base. Thousands of non-DOD ID card holders come on base. It would be a limited rally (3000) but they could social distance outside the stadium with a big screen setup and have 1000 on the lawn and parade deck next to the stadium. The President can legally hold the event for the military but open it up to civilians. Tour the Tri-Base area and Bragg, have Melania meet with military wives and then give a military centric speech but open the event to the public.

Then shut your city down and leave the rest of us alone. Let your Mayor make that call.

Antibody tests are not what is used purportedly due to inaccuracy but they are not what is used to detect current Covid infections.

There are many antibody tests. Some are more accurate than others.

Interesting link and, no, I don’t work for Roche. :-)

On the other hand, their numbers are pretty bad since they had so many major protests three weeks ago and did nothing to stop them.

They have 10 million people, and 1200 new cases yesterday, and 1700 the day before.

Virginia, also opening, and just north with 8.2 million people, is holding steady at about 520 cases a day.

We only have one decent-sized city with protests, so our protesters have been much smaller-sized and better distanced.
