AP FACT CHECK: In time of trauma, Trumps congratulates self
The Associated Press ^ | June 20, 2020 | By CALVIN WOODWARD and HOPE YEN

WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump prefaced the revival of his campaign rallies with days of self-congratulation, a familiar pattern that has not been disturbed by the traumas of this time.

... A look at claims and the reality from the past week:

TRUMP: “Biden got failing grades and polls on his clueless handling of the Swine Flu H1N1. It was a total disaster, they had no idea what they were doing.” - tweet Thursday.

THE FACTS: This is a distorted history of a pandemic in 2009 that killed far fewer people in the United States than the coronavirus is killing now.

TRUMP: “I did something good: I made Juneteenth very famous. ... It’s actually an important event, an important time. But nobody had ever heard of it.” - Wednesday.

THE FACTS: It’s not true that no one had heard of it.

TRUMP, on abusive policing: “President Obama and Vice President Biden never even tried to fix this during their eight-year period. The reason they didn’t try is because they had no idea how to do it.” - Tuesday at the White House.

THE FACTS: That is false.

Under the Obama administration, the Justice Department opened 25 wide-ranging civil rights investigations.

TRUMP, on scientists: “These are the people – the best, the smartest, the most brilliant anywhere, and they’ve come up with the AIDS vaccine. They’ve come up with ... various things.” - Tuesday at the White House.

THE FACTS: No one has come up with a vaccine for AIDS, nor is there a cure.

TRUMP, talking what he’s done for veterans: “Every VA medical facility now offers same-day emergency mental health, something we didn’t have or even come close to having.” - remarks Wednesday.

THE FACTS: That’s false. Same-day mental health service started before Trump took office in January 2017.

If the media would just report the facts and accomplishments of this admin fairly, while admitting that he has had the toughest uphill, upstream, into the headwind, unfair slog in the history of the presidency — then he’d never have to congratulate himself.

Once a week my local paper runs a full-page wire feature (AP?) laying out and solemnly debunking all of Pres. Trump’s lies, errors, boasts, mispronunciations and other outrages. I’ve learned to skip immediately to the next page.

“But nobody had ever heard of it.”

Trump was referring, of course, to the ordinary person.

Looks like the democrat strategy for electing Biden is while Hidin’ Biden holes up in his basement, the MSM will be doing the campaigning for him.

THE FACTS: It’s not true that no one had heard of it.

Said the journ-o-listas without providing any evidence.

The first and only time I ever heard of it was when I lived in Texas 35 years ago. There was a story in the newspaper, but there was really no celebration outside of the black community.

“But nobody had ever heard of it.”
= = = = = = = = =
I had ‘heard’ of it back in the day but if I remember correctly the ‘more important day’ (at least scheduling wise) was Easter Monday.

Most of the crew went ‘home’(South) for Easter and we (management) sort of scheduled around it - not all that busy though because used to shut down the Plants after Thanksgiving and crank back up in mid March or so. That was in early 70s then in the 80s basically started keeping them open most of the year, maybe maintenance Mid Dec-Mid Jan but the weather started allowing us to work basically year round.

In the Saturday address, he revisited some of the key initiatives passed during his administration.

“Together, we fought our way back from the worst recession in 80 years, and got unemployment to a nine-year low. We secured health insurance for another twenty million Americans, and new protections for folks who already had insurance. We made America more respected around the world, took on the mantle of leadership in the fight to protect this planet for our kids, and much, much more,” he said.
OH Wait, that’s Obama.

“ No one has come up with a vaccine for AIDS, nor is there a cure.”

That’s not exactly true. There have been several vaccines developed, but so far, none of them have worked well, although one used in Thailand shows promise in being partially effective.

I like PDJT and back him BUT I certainly wish he would/could learn to say 3 little words (or is it 4 Joe?)

ONE OF THE ....

Prior to his ‘best ever’ situations.

Not the GREATEST, Cassius Clay may have been the Greatest in his mind but he was actually ONE OF THE Greatest...

Can’t (though this bunch today would find a way) disprove a general statement even if using the Superlatives...

Of course it won’t change, it is his style and he has gotten away with it for so long as usually the ‘yes men’ would hang on every word and praise him.

Politics is a tad different.
In business one can hire whoever you want and let them go at your leisure and not even make up an excuse.

Take Sessions - for instance - when PDJT first proposed him (and most EVERY pick) the ‘other side’ vilified the choice with a plethora of excuses of why the person was ‘NOT good for the job’.

Later, When PDJT (maybe) realizes he ‘made a mistake’ and dismisses the person, ‘they’ all of a sudden are on the Prez for firing the finest person who every walked the face of the earth, a true patriot etc etc who just six months ago was vilified as being pure evil.

Biggest problem is most people don’t read below the fold, whatever the headline reads is ‘the story’ like Einstein once predicted that we would become a nation of idiots if we got to ‘much technology’.

The AssPress has been consistently as bad as, if not worse than, CNN in their propaganda attacks on the President.

I really firmly believe that we need to stop spreading this propaganda to a wider audience. There is absolutely zero need to repost this trash.

We wouldn’t repost a “Bat boy” article from Weekly World News.

We need to stop treating the worst offenders in the press like they are legitimate.

We can play the “fact” game! I can easily refute what the AP calls “fact”. A refute should have substantial evidence far above the initial statement and these fact checks are totally asinine but stupid people will believe the “facts”/talking point of view.

There needs to be a fact-checker for the AP fact-checker.

One person heard of it - so "Trump lied".

What a bunch of mouthbreathing cretins.

If you are subscribing to a newspaper, you are part of the problem. Defund the MSM by not subscribing to newspapers.
