an argument that is omitted from this article is that george floyd was a professional bouncer for 10 years, and that chauvin was likely aware of that. bouncers are hired and paid to exert physical control over unruly night club customers in potentially difficult circumstances. therefore, they are likely to have unarmed self defense training of some sort— wrestling, judo, whatever. chauvin would therefore be likely to have needed to take this into account in restraining floyd, since imho at least in theory it represents an additional potential threat to the officers.

“George Floyd was experiencing cardiopulmonary and psychological distress minutes before he was placed on the ground,..”

Yo...listen up you Minnesota democrats. Don’t have a heart incident in the city...the cops will treat you like you have ESDs or whatever and then kill you. The claustrophobia I TOTALLY understand. That condition can kill you in itself. And for what? Supposedly he passed a counterteit $20? How did the store know? Was it monopoly money? How did he know? I don’t know if I have counterfeit bills in my wallet..does anybody? Job well done men in blue. Look what a mess you created.

Yes.
My contribution was more aimed at...

More Riots at the announcement of reduced charges?
Dropped charges?

[Just to make the riots come back, of course. Not because they should be withdrawn.]

I’m sticking with let’s see all the evidence before coming to a conclusion.

Yes, I am not a statist.

That is my feeling as well. By keeping for the man to upgrade the charges to second Degree and buy some Reports demanding first-degree murder charges as well, it increases the chance of them not getting a conviction because they overcharged. It appears some crime was committed, however I doubt They will be able to convict on murder as the restraint method was approved by the Minneapolis police.

Too long indeed. I should hope the jury is presented with all this information. They will have hours upon days to figure it out.

Since you seem rational. Is Chauvin charged with manslaughter or not. I see many conflicting versions. There is no way a rational jury can convict on a Murder charge. Manslaughter is a slam dunk.

I’d appreciate your thoughts.

CNN already convicted him, what’s the problem here?

Good analysis. “Mr. Floyd did not voluntarily get in the car.” I hope Chauvin walks. Police deal with non-voluntary actions of citizens daily. Very sad. Police deserve 100% respect and the bad police deserve respect, a smile and a phone call to his supervisor. Floyd was a loser and lacked the strength to be respectful, cheerful and to research for the supervisor’s phone number. Yes, I’ve dealt with loser policemen 3x and it was rough but still an opportunity to show respect.

Police deserve exactly as much respect as they give to citizens.

In the Minneapolis case it would be zero. There is never any reason to assault a handcuffed and unconscious prisoner. Period.

I fully respect and support the Atlanta cop. He had been assaulted and his weapon stolen.

Of these two cases one is a legitimate use of force and the other is not. Supporting dirty cops like the Minneapolis 4 is a fools errand and political kamikaze mission.

A steaming pile of self published garbage from medium? If this is the best defense those dirty cops have they are in big trouble.

100% agree. Good cop or bad cop, both deserve respect. Glad you said it.

The analysis suffers from virtue signalling. To claim the police actions were horrendously wrong, but in line with MPD training and guidance is nonsensical.

Last week Judge Jeanine was arguing that Chauvin should be charged with first degree murder.

A lot may depend on the makeup of the jury.

Let’s be clear: the actions of Chauvin and the other officers were absolutely wrong. But they were also in line with MPD rules and procedures for the condition which they determined was George Floyd was suffering from.

Huh?

Otherwise, a good article.

Restraining the suspect on his or her abdomen (prone restraint) is a common tactic in ExDS situations, and the white paper used by the MPD instructs the officers to control the suspect until paramedics arrive.

...

Well, were the paramedics called as Floyd was being restrained?

The original charge - murder 3 - was, IIRC, the equivalent of manslaughter. Murder 2 is a huge overcharge.

If it wasn’t Floyd they would have found someone else.

That Chauvin has his knee in a position to exert force if the suspect tries to flee does not mean that he is exerting force the entire time.

This description supports a charge of torture. Otherwise, the MPD policy clearly and succinctly describes that force must be discontinued when the suspect in custody is no longer actively resisting. Chauvin was a dirty cop.

I call BS on this tome.

I'd have no trouble voting "guilty" on *something* but no way would I vote guilty on murder...2nd degree murder...3rd degree murder.I'd vote guilty on something like "reckless endangerment" or something like that...something that could get him 3-5 years.

But nothing more.
