At 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, the extension of the so-called “stay home, work safe” order in Harris County expired, but an announcement on the future of the order is expected Thursday.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo issued the original order in March as the coronavirus pandemic began to unfold. Last month, she extended it until June 10.

A representative of Hidalgo said Wednesday that an announcement about the future of the order will be made “in the next couple of days.” Later in the day, Hidalgo scheduled a 3 p.m. Thursday news conference. The representative said that the order will likely be a new one and not an extension of the existing order.

In the news conference announcement, Hidalgo said she will unveil a coronavirus threat-level system for the county.

More than 15,000 cases of coronavirus have been reported in Harris County and Houston.

Texas has set records this week for the number of COVID-19 patients who are hospitalized in the state.

The representative said that the order will likely be a new one and not an extension of the existing order.

This is the key statement. This allows her to be even more restrictive, or selective, in how she implements the shutdown. It's another power grab.

Maybe she will get up there with Police Chief Art Arse-vedo to announce they’ve arrested the person who was spreading “untrue” rumors about an impending lockdown order for Houston back in March.

Art Arse also implicated unidentified foreign governments with spreading that “untrue rumor”. Maybe he can now tell us if it was Russia. Or maybe it was all white kids with skateboards.

800 charges were dropped by Kim Ogg in Houston’s protests and riots. Only 51 charges remain (misdemeanors and felonies). How many of them are against white kids with skateboards who Art Acevedo blamed ALL of the violence and destruction on?

Still no on churches.
Still yes on political campaigning by SEIU.
Protests for SJW issues are exempted but protests against the lockdown are still prohibited.

We’ll see at 3pm how accurate that guess is.

I live in Harris county.

This stay at home order is being widely ignored at this point.

At this point, she is undermining her own authority.

Little power hungry punk.

Hey Lina, no one is listening to you.

How’s that going to help your credibility when we get hit with a hurricane? No one will listen to you then either and good people will get hurt/killed.

The job of county judge carries a lot of responsibility and one of those if to be truthful to the county residents.

Has TX’s governor overridden local curbs (on pain of fines and /or license revocation) on businesses that re-open?
